This is the absolutely THE very best book on the subject of Floriography. It boggles the mind how many plants are included and from A to Z just how exceptionally well organized this reference book is. The lists in the back of the book are numerically tied to each of the plants listed alphabetically by the official latin name, which are numerical starting with 1 and ending with 954! Listed with each of the individual official latin names are whatever common names that plant might be known by. Some may have a few. Others have lots of them. Then there is that amazing set of indexes in the back of the book. There are thousands of referenced names, symbols, and powers in the back of the book. The indexes start on page 357 and are four columns long, all alphabetized and individually numbered accorded to the latin name it references! Amazing really. These lists end on page 435. That's 78 pages. Seriously, as indexes go it is the best back of the book reference I've ever seen in any book ever in my life. And I've got lots of them. I had originally come here to get it for my Nook. And I saw that there wasn't an ebook so I got it in paperback. I am so glad that I did, because this is the kind of book that needs to be held in the hands to flip through and back and forth. It's fantastic. I love it. If you are interested in the meanings of flowers and all that sort of thing, get this book. You will love yourself for it.
I got this book to help plan the flowers for my wedding...which turned out so beautiful...for sure...but, was also more meaningful than I could have ever imagined they would be. What I love about this book is how easy it is to find what I was looking for. Like, there were some flowers I thought I wanted, so I looked them up in the EXTENSIVE index in the back and found the flowers by name and then the body of the book only to discover they were not such a good choice for a wedding after all. So, I made a list of all the powers that were important to me in a marriage like: faithfulness, honesty, romance, and such. Then I used the powers list in the index to find flowers that had the attributed powers I was hoping to incorporate in my bouquet. Some flowers were not possible to find, but I made a list of all those that were feasible. Since I was getting married in July, there was time to grow some of them. I bought some. All in all, my aunt and I made all my bouquets and arrangements and they turned out so beautiful. We received so many nice compliments. But more so, the energy at the ceremony and the reception was better than i would have expected even at a wedding. I think it was wonderful, so does my new husband. And everyone who mentioned how good it "felt" there and such convinced me that it was all do to the choices I made in my flowers. So now that I am moving into our first home soon, and there is a room there for a little garden I plan on making it a beautiful AND meaningful garden that protects the home, energizes it and contributes as much happiness to it as I can possibly make. All due to this amazing book. I'm so glad I found it. It makes all the other books about the meanings of flowers and such seem almost laughable in comparison.
