This book was a requirement for my Nutritional Counseling program. I thought it offered a concise explanation of many pertinent food topics concerning the prevention of cancer. The format is very easy to follow and the material is informative throughout. However, given their consistent clean message about the significance of avoiding toxins at every angle and to become strict with the diet so as to prevent cancer or further tumor formation, I was shocked to read in the last chapter their promotion of consuming GMO foods! To tell the reader, a potential cancer patient or survivor, that it's okay to eat trace amounts of pesticide residue so long as you are eating fruits and vegetables, ON A DAILY BASIS, is beyond contradictory to what this book was all about up until that point. Condoning the consumption of GMO foods deflates the whole purpose of avoiding toxins as well as the importance of restricting the diet to safe, non-toxic, nutritious foods. I am greatly disappointed that the authors ruined the intelligence of this book by insinuating statements that GMO pesticide laden foods are nothing more than "negative myths". It does not take a rocket scientist, nor someone with a PhD, to know that the repetitive usage of pesticides in our soil, sprayed on the plants and again on the foods just prior to harvest is NOT just an environmental concern, it is also unsafe for human consumption. The whole purpose of using pesticides is to prevent and interrupt the organic cycle of life... that goes for every living organism. I truly hope when the revision of this book comes out, that the authors will be a bit more sensitive to who the reader is most likely to be and omit this nonsense about the safety of GMO foods. If the book had not contained misleading information about GMO foods in the last chapter, I would have given it a 5 start rating.

This book is okay, but not what I expected. There were several inconsistencies that could be confusing for some people. By far the best cancer book is Life Over Cancer by Keith Block.

This book is true to its title. It is a book about preventing cancer by using the foods that are proven to reduce the risk of cancer. It is based on a research performed by the author at University of Montreal. The author does not suggest any supplements but he focuses on foods containing well defined active anticancerous molecules. The book is very specific and goal oriented. Take the time to read the book if you want to prevent yourself from this terrible disease. The book is easy to read, and understand with a load of practical information. Another great book in this category is "Cure the Incurable".

I read the Canadian edition of this book. This is the first cancer prevention book that deals with cancer prevention without suggesting supplements, using simply the foods proven to reduce risk. The active molecules are well deliniated by the authors who run a research division at the University of Montreal. The edition I read had beautiful pictures, and was a visual pleasure as well as a good read.
