One Christmas Eve, five years ago, James Lorde lost the love of his life in a freak drowning accident. His wife's body was never recovered, and since that night, he's been in a depression, both grieving and clinging to hope that she lives.

It's Christmas Eve, and the depression is especially hard this time of year. He gets only a small measure of relief when he's near the water that stole her away from him because, somehow, he feels her presence on the beach. His family thinks he's losing his mind when he tells them he feels her out there, but that is the reason he bought the home where he currently resides. He wants to give her a way home.

On Christmas day, it feels as if his wife is in the home with him, but when he looks, there is no one there. In a fit of desperation, unable to remain in the house, he takes off running to the beach. No sooner has he started running than he feels someone running beside him, but there is no one there when he looks. Thinking he has definitely gone over the edge, he begins running backward, hoping to catch evidence of whomever is following him.

And there they were, two footsteps next to his in the sand. He is so shocked by this that he keeps running, looking for the footsteps, but before he can focus on them, the waves wash them away. Running backward, he trips over an obstacle in his path. Turning around, he is not prepared for the sight that greets him, as he is now left to wonder, can even loved ones find their way home, at Christmas....?

Author Ju Ephraime has made a well-wrought, highly emotional story here with the tale of James Lorde and the tragic loss of his wife, Nicola. Ephraime uses the Christmas season as background for James' mourning and hope for a miracle. This story is about the overwhelming power of love, the precious quality of time, and most of all, the possibility of second chances and renewal. The writing here is undeniably sexy, sensual, and at times, otherworldly. I thoroughly enjoyed this lovely take on paranormal romance, and I was left feeling every bittersweet moment with these amazing characters. I would recommend this novella to anyone who enjoys a good romantic story, the mystery of the unexplained, and the magic that comes from unfaltering love.

Reviewed by JJ Phillips for Readers' Favorite Footsteps In The Sand by Ju Ephraime is a contemporary romance with hints of a paranormal and ghost story centered around the holiday period of Christmas. Five years ago, James' wife and love of his life drowned. He's never gotten over her, and since her body was never recovered, has never found a way to grieve properly. A part of him still believes that she is out there, and he sees signs of her around the house that he bought on the beach for her to come home to. He also sees her in Shelly, a mysterious woman who washes up on shore and has many of the qualities of James' wife. Shelly seems like the perfect person to rid James of his pain, but can he really let go of the love of his live? Is he ready to move on or does he want to hang on to the past forever, even if it means missing a chance to be with someone that he could truly love...? Footsteps In The Sand is a nice seasonal love story that will make you think about the miracles that happen during the Christmas season. It is heavy on the sizzle in the romance department, which I enjoyed. It is also about true love and overcoming those debilitating emotions of fear and loss and pain. I loved having a main male character that was suffering and wasn't afraid to show his emotions. Hats off to Ju Ephraime for depicting that so well.

This is an excellent Christmas ghost story. It was sad and filled with real life situations. I felt James' pain when he lost his wife, and then to think she'd return was climatic. Strong adult elements in this story. If you love steamy romances, then this book is a must read.

Footsteps in the sand is definitely not your average Christmas story. Footsteps starts with us meeting James Lorde. James hates Christmas because he lost the love of his life one Christmas during a boating accident. He buys a house near where he lost Nicola (his wife) and renovates to her dream house. He spends hours on the beach looking for her. One day, he finds a woman on the shore, and brings her to the house. Strange things start to happen, and he begins to wonder who this woman really is. I liked this story because, as I said, it's not your average Christmas story. It's a Christmas ghost story, and I found that to be unique. I loved the characters, and I love the way they fell in love (again).

This is a Christmas story filled with passion and love. The story of a man who lost the love of his life one Christmas. He never gave up looking for her, then one day he believes he found her. I like this story because the author takes you into the pain and loneliness of the main character, James, as he pines for his wife and the exhilarated feeling he experiences when he believes he found her. Caution, this is a very heated book for adults. I highly recommend it!

When I first read the title I was not sure about this book until I read the description in the back. I fell in love with the main characters and love the way the author portrayed them. There is some heated sex scenes in the story but it’s beautifully done the way the author portrayed the love between James Lorde and his wife. I felt his pain at the loss of his wife and could see how Christmas was an especially difficult time for him. I’ve read several of this author’s books. She does not skimp on the scenes. Great story.

This novel is told in an engaging and unaffected style and benefits greatly from such an approach, so that the genuine feelings of the main characters come through quite tellingly. The reader's sympathies are immediately drawn towards James Lorde, as he tries to deal with such a major loss as the death of his wife Nicola -- his one true love -- and at the same time, as he tries to get on with his own life, knowing all the time that there is a huge void in his heart and in his soul -- a void that he feels certain can never be filled. That is, until he finds himself stirred by the appearance on the beach of a lonely figure of a woman who appears as though she has just been washed ashore. His wife Nicola had presumably drowned five years earlier, but her body had never been found. From this point on, the reader gets drawn into James's dilemma as he struggles to remain faithful to the memory of his dear Nicola, yet finds himself mysteriously drawn to Shelly who, in many ways, reminds him of what he has lost as she begins to touch his soul and arouse his latent feelings in much the same way Nicola once did. A heart-warming story that readers will, no doubt, find particularly enthralling!

A wonderfully emotional read I’m so glad I didn’t pass this by, thinking it was just a holiday story. The events take place at Christmas, but Footsteps in the Sand is not what I would call a typical holiday story. It’s a wonderfully emotional read that can be appreciated any time of the year. The story begins five years after James lost his wife in a boating accident. He’s still filled with grief and guilt and doesn’t celebrate the holidays. I could easily feel his pain, because it was described so well by the author. Losing a loved one is always sad, and even worse when it happens on a holiday. But this holiday, a miracle happens. Well, I won’t give any more away, you need to read this one for yourself. Just keep a box of tissues handy…

Once again a truly amazing work of art. Footsteps in the Sand was just the read I needed to make me believe once again in miracles. Although James, the main character, may seem a little off in the beginning he does have his reasons. Nicola was his soul-mate, the one he breathed and would die for. Unfortunately, a tragic situation occurs which puts James into a pain ridden sense of mind. He wishes and prays that his wife would be back by his side, that he envisions footprints in the sand along with his when he runs. Is it imagination or can it be actually true that Nicola is there with him? Family and friends worry about James state of mind and depression, but along comes Shelly. Can she change James from the depressive to one who wants to love again? There is something up with her also, can love and people be reincarnated? This is a definite recommended read for everyone. Get ready for tears, heartbreak, and belief that maybe miracles can really happen.
