Editorial Reviews

School Library Journal - School Library Journal
Gr 4-8 A fictionalized account of the life of Possum and her family (ancestors of the modern opossum) during the age of dinosaurs, this book is filled with facts about the life forms of that period, both plant and animal, and the effect of the earth's changes on them. It is a readable, well-written account of prehistoric life in the late Mesozoic era that will make fun reading for dinosaur/prehistory fans . Bloch's approach, a personalized story of the life of small mammals in a world of monstrous reptiles, is both entertaining and enlightening and can be used effectively in conjunction with the many good books about prehistoric mammals and dinosaurs that, because the information is packaged in a more succinct and profusely illustrated format, are better for reports than this one. Black-and-white cross-hatched drawings are interspersed throughout. Dramatized nonfiction for libraries that can use something a little different in their ever-popular prehistoric animal sections.
