Footprints of a Pilgrim by Ruth Bell Graham

Footprints Of A Pilgrim is Ruth Bell Graham's life story told in her own words (weaving together her prose and poetry) with added tidbits and anecdotes from her family (husband Billy and her children Gigi, Anne, Franklin, Ruth and Ned) and many of her friends (including Barbara Bush, Lady Bird Johnson, Jan Karon, Patricia Cornwell and others). With snatches of insight and glimpses of grace, Footprints Of A Pilgrim tells the story of a life (a very full and special life) complete with memories of joy, pain, brokenness, and healing. Also included are many never before published pictures which illustrate the remarkable journey of Ruth Bell Graham, as a child of a missionaries in Quingjiang, China in 1920, until today at her home in Little Piney Cove, Montreat, North Carolina.

"I love the paint of words" are the first words from this Ruth Bell Graham book. Deep words those are. I found this book to be deep and heart filled yet simple. My love of poetry led me to read this book and I must say after reading this book I think I love poetry even more. She shares her voice within a unique poetic way that is lovely in my opinion. The book itself has multiple pictures of past family and friends of hers, and contains poetry throughout her years. Her husband and children wrote short stories about her as well in this book. This book made me feel as if I was part of the family myself its full of everyday experiences that could happen to anyone. With her devotion to God and her family and her absolute patience I feel this woman to be a woman to be envied. I find this book enlightening and wonderful any person who finds poetry dull and or boring I believe this book would change that persons mind definitely. I most certainly recommend this book for anyone looking for a good read.

Rich, simple and startlingly clear & deep, the poetry of Ruth Bell Graham speaks a heart language that lends itself alike to silent contemplation or verbal reading. This is far more than an attractive coffee-table book. It is a treasure of rich verse, beautiful language, deep insight and breathtaking honesty. An ideal gift for yourself or that special someone, this is a book that will continue to give every time it is opened. It also poses the risk of making poetry lovers from those who think all poetry is stilted and obscure.
