After her favorite aunt is found dead and an alarming box is mysteriously left on the doorstep of her aunt's house now legally hers, Lavinia Esposito wants explanations. But, having cleared the package of explosives, the local cops are dumbfounded by the precious stones which came without an explanation, only an address, her Aunt Livvy's. Frustrated by the cops' refusal to share their theories, criminal justice instructor Lavinia Esposito, a.k.a. Vinnie, takes investigation matters into her own hands. Vinnie is soon dragged into situations beyond her control, finding herself in hot water with the law, the crooks, and her Italian father. Willing to put her life at risk to learn what really happened to her beloved Aunt Livvy, and why jewels would be addressed to her aunt, Vinnie plunges ahead with her usual tenacity, bravery, and keen wits to solve and survive this mystery.

About the Author

With her books sold worldwide, J.M. Griffin is one of today's popular women sleuths authors.
J.M. is known best for her Vinnie Esposito series. The series, set in Rhode Island, the smallest state in the USA, is brought to life by a colorful cast of characters. Every novel has a blend of humor, mystery, and romance. J.M.'s latest novel in the series, Cold Moon Dead, is the fourth in the Esposito series. Her latest, The Deadly Bread Series, takes place in Rhode Island, features a Scot, a bread maker, and lots of interesting characters who help figure out who-done-it.
Stepping away from Rhode Island's scenery, J.M. set Faerie Cake Dead on the coast of Maine. Filled with humor, faeries, sweet cupcakes, murder and a yummy hero, the villain is someone you’ll least expect.
J.M.'s release, Murder on Spyglass Lane, takes place on the west coast of Florida in the Sarasota area. This cozy mystery has a unique and hilarious blend of characters, a sexy hero, and a psychic heroine.
Tangled to Death was a mystery inspired by J.M.’s favorite art style, Zentangle. She set the story in New Hampshire with an unexpected corpse in the first scene. Wit and fun fill the pages of this novel.
J.M., her husband, and two mysterious cats reside in a countryside village in western Rhode Island, where life is anything but mundane.

This book is such a good read. One of those that you want to finish so you know who did but don't want it to end. More, More, More, PLEASE.

This book kept you in suspense throughout the whole story. You didn't want to put it down until the mystery was solved which was at the end of the book. In addition, there was a lot of hilarious things that happened throughout the story. Great read. More please.

Livvy is hysterical and so are her friends! Very entertaining with non-stop action and twists that keep you reading. This suspense novel made me want more and I hope there is another Livvy book coming. I truly enjoyed the law enforcement aspects of this book! A great read!

I thought it seemed hastily written and predictable. It wadn't nearly as funny as reviews led me to believe. But my sense of humor is somewhat dry and cynical. It was entertaining enough but it wouldn't stand out as a book I would recommend.

The author had a great idea for a plot and interesting characters but the writing itself is horrible. Awkward to say the least. Examples: "The walls shown (sic) like buffed worn leather. Slowly I whirled around in awe." So a misspelling and an oxymoron in the space of 13 words. All kinds of unnecessary details that in a well-written book might have indicated clues, but in this story are just meaningless detail. A lot of it just seems like padding to make a short story into a novel. The protagonist drinks no cup of coffee that doesn't have a rich aroma, does not eat without a complete description of the ingredients, can't enter a room without smelling something, does not go anywhere without walking toward something. There's no just driving someplace-- instead there is walking toward the car, opening the car door, getting in, buckling the seat belt-- I'm exaggerating, but you get the idea. Too bad, because the ideas are very good; it's the execution that made me grind my teeth.

Two handsome guys competing for a law enforcement gal with parents who want her married. Uh, Evanovich? But without the clever dialogue. Can you say "Copycat?"

This book starts out fast paced and continues right through to the end. I never had an inkling of 'who done it' until the end and couldn't stop laughing.

This was a good read for those who like detective mysteries. Enjoyable and I would read more of this authors books. I would recommend this book to others. There was light hearted romance, mystery and possible murder.

This was a great book with lots of description. I didn't want to put it down until I figured out the mystery. That of course was saved until the very end.

This is a very cute book - fun and easy reading. I just wish the author got her information correctly about how to get to Rhode Island. She makes references to the George Washington Bridge wich goes from NY to NJ - sorry not Rhode Island and the Verrazano Bridge which goes from New York to Staten Island - not Rhode Island. Being a Native New Yorker, those blatant mistakes took away from the writing since the author did not take the time to verify her facts.

I feel like this author sat with a thesaurus while writing this book. The idea of the story was good, but it probably could have been at least 20 pages shorter if you took away some of the words that just didn't need to be there. I found it very distracting to the storyline, and almost gave up reading it several times, but I wanted to find out the ending so I stuck with it. Glad it was a freebie.

I enjoyed the story, the characters and especially the vignettes of family and community in Rhode Island. Vinny is a charming heroine and her various sidekicks complement her well. She is goofball enough without going completely overboard. That tends to destroy credibility. Reading the food passages made me very hungry, as I love Italian food. I also liked that the author did not go into kind numbing details with the love scenes. Doing that takes away from the flow of the story. There are some disconnects in the plot; transitions from suspicions to reveals are not as smooth, which makes it hard to believe. There is a need for better editing, particularly in the grammar area. There are dozens of instances of apostrophes being used incorrectly and a few places in which their should have been they're. These things are distracting and do reduce the pleasure of reading for people who are sticklers. I am also dismayed by the carelessness of editors and publishing houses which release incomplete editions - it is unprofessional. That being said, I shall read any future adventures, even if I must clench my teeth at the mistakes.

This book was so much better than I expected. The characters were likable and I enjoyed it. I am always leery with free and cheap reads and this exceeded all my expectations.
