About the Author
Born in Albuquerque, New Mexico in December, 1949, George Spendley was raised in the desert, but his heart always longed for the mountains. He began writing poetry when he was 13 years old, but with very few exceptions, never shared his poetry with anyone until 1998. In 1969, he heard a song written by John Denver. "Rhymes and Reasons" was the approval message
Spendley needed to hear to know that it was acceptable for a man to write about the kind of emotions he felt.
Once a firefighter, Spendley was forced to leave his profession after a career-ending injury on the job. Now living near Steamboat Springs,
Colorado with his wife, MaryAnn, and one-year-old daughter Annie Noelle, Spendley runs his 27-acre horse ranch and continues to write poetry inspired by the style of other poets such as Joe Henry, Gordon Lightfoot and Paul Williams.
