Ok. Really gives away the ending in the series title. Short. Ongoing series, not a complete story

3.5 - "Tie me up, darling, and I'll spill all my secrets." Stars! It’s no secret that I am not a fan of the whole Stepbrother romance phenomenon that seems to have gripped authors and readers alike recently, I have tried to read a few and most of them have either left me underwhelmed or completely nonplussed as to what the whole furore is about. BUT, I do love the forbidden romance trope, and I think that is the bracket that I would drop this series into, because Lauren Smith has concentrated on the relationship between this couple and not the titillating, slightly no,no aspect that the whole step-siblings trope seems to be about at the moment. Without posting spoilers, I want to be clear that this couple are both in their twenties, have no knowledge of the other until meeting by accident at a pub in Cambridge, and have no prior history. The Step-siblings aspect comes much later in the story. And that is why I enjoyed this one, it’s not filled with angst, or overplayed drama, it’s about a sexy British aristocrat, meeting and finding an unexpected connection with an American student. I wish to have an adventure… Tristan and Kat are pretty much the opposite of each other, one experienced, who lives life to the fullest, whilst dealing with unimaginable pressure to conform and fit in line with familial duty, the other sheltered, inexperienced, nervous and a little shy, more comfortable in the fictional world created in books and literature, than the actual real world. What transpires is a beautifully written, sexy adventure between two people coming together and discovering a lot of 'firsts' about themselves and each other. "Makes a man hungry for more when a woman looks at him like that." The good thing is the rest of the books in this series release in a relatively short time frame, so although the reader is left on the edge of the cliff at the end of Forbidden; Tristan and Kat’s story continues in Seduction Which is due for release on 9th February. ARC generously provided by the author, and it was my absolute pleasure to provide the above honest review.

The plot is good, however the writing is not. I read all three books since it was a series. The story is predictable and the characters thoughts repetetive. I actually skipped paragraphs! Add to that the publishers terrible proof reading leaving extra words, wrong words and missing words, this book series was disappointing.

'Forbidden' by Lauren Smith is the first book in the 'Her British Stepbrother' trilogy. This is the story of Tristan Kingsley and Kat Roberts. This book does end in a Cliffhanger in their story. Kat is an American girl going to College in London where her father just moved for work. Kat has actually been there for about three years in London and has started to feel safe in making friends. Before they moved so much that she didn't bother to make friends. In addition she has other issues with her mom up and leaving them. So she does have some issue with people leaving her. Tristan too has issue but with his father. His father is a Lord and Tristan will be inheriting the title so his father dictates Tristan's life. Tristan has a playboy reputation too. Kat is a 'good girl' who has never really had a boyfriend and although her father does have money its not as much as Tristan. Tristan knows from their first meeting that Kat is a different type of women. Tristan knows that he will actually have to work for a relationship with Kat. Kat is highly attracted to Tristan but knows he is a player and she doesn't want to get hurt by him. This story hooks you in pretty fast. I liked Kat and how she tried to stick to her feelings of not being hurt. I enjoyed watching Tristan trying to deal with his growing feelings...something he never had to do with a lady before. He has always been a love them and leave them type guy. "My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read."

Forbidden was my first book by Lauren Smith and I know it won't be my last. The first part of the romance between university student Kat, and Tristan who is the son of a British peer, Forbidden provides the reader with a lovely Cinderella-like wistfulness. This book ticked several big boxes for me. Firstly, it made me nostalgic for my university days. I must confess, I am a lot like Kat, or at least I was when I was her age, so I really sympathized with her and understood her feelings. I love when I feel such empathy for a heroine. She is young and innocent and knows a man like Tristan has the power to decimate her heart but she can't help falling. Secondly, the conflict is clear from the beginning and is strong. We know immediately that Kat could never be a part of Tristan's entitled world. He knows it too but can't resist her. Thirdly, the intimate moments are sweet yet sexy as this young woman explores her sexuality for the first time. I love that the intimacy fits the situation and isn't overdone. Ms. Smith made sure all her puzzle pieces fit beautifully and it all works so well. This is book 1 of the Her British Stepbrother series so we are seeing the first part of this relationship and the author sets up a wonderful tension that will lead into the next book. I know I will read it eagerly and can't wait to see how Kat and Tristan's story ends.

Part one of the stepbrother romance. This was such a great introduction to this series, Kat meets Tristan at a bar and the attraction is immediate but the only thing is that he is known as a player and a heart breaker, and one other minor thing. He is next in line for an earldom. Kat is a nice American who is finally having a chance to put down roots, she draws you in because all of her anxiety about being left alone is so easily relatable. As they finally get their relationship back on track they find out some things that throw them for a loop. Now I can't tell you if they resolve the problems because that is in the next part. However I can tell you that you will really enjoy these characters, there is a little bondage, and just a nice romance about opening someone up to all new experiences.

Kat is an introvert, never letting anyone get too close. She has lost a good deal of her courage because her mother abandoned her and her father. Kat has never had a physical relationship with a man and I think that makes her seem a bit surreal to me. I like it! But as she settles into this new home, Cambridge, she decides that she has had enough of the hiding and playing it safe! She wants more! Being a college student is a bit freeing as well. What better day to start than her birthday? So she goes out with her friend and sees a man walk into the bar that makes her mouth go dry. Tristan Kingsley, the next Earl of Pembroke, did not date. He is a classic "rake" sowing his wild oats as it were. He was destined to marry another blue blood. By his father's decree, it would be arranged for him. So he has been playing the field and not really caring about the women he sees. Until he meets her! Kat bravely takes charge the first time they meet and she couldn't help herself, she had to kiss him! He is hooked from the moment their lips touch. Nothing and no one has ever made him feel like she does. She feels the same but is more cautious. The chase is on! This book is WHITE HOT! The story, though, is so sweet. The way they can talk to each other and just be with each other without all the normal angsty bs is so refreshing! Opening up is hard for both of them but they each feel very comfortable with the other. If things were different for him, they may have a future, but he knows his father would never let him marry below his station. They reluctantly part for Christmas, and meet up again all too soon! This was a fantastic first int he series! I was glued to my tablet until I was finished! The writing was superb, and I love the way Lauren Smith paints a scene. One of my favorite authors! I've read the next book already and you will LOVE it as well! My review will be coming soon on that one!

Step-brother romances are new to me. In the past, I tended to not read them because the whole idea was taboo to me. I read an excerpt of Forbidden somewhere and got the idea that it was different from other step-brother romances. For that, I wanted to read the story. Unlike other books of its kind, Forbidden is told in third person. For me, I would have preferred first person. I just think it would have allowed me to connect with the characters and get inside their heads better. What I like about this story is that Katherine “Kat” and Tristan have no history together. They are just two people who meet like any other potential couple. They don't have a whirlwind romance. It’s a fight to even attempt to be together. The two are from completely different worlds. Kat is an innocent, shy nineteen-year-old American girl who has few friends and suffers abandonment issues. Tristan is a twenty-five-year-old British aristocrat who is experienced. He knows how to get the things he wants. He just doesn't want the future being pressed upon him by his father, the Earl of Pembroke. The two meet at a pub and Tristan becomes intrigued by Kat, who is unlike any woman he’s ever known. They share an attraction as well as a connection. Tristan is a silver tongued devil who had not only Kat but myself melting. However, I didn't feel the overwhelming connection to them I would have liked. Just as things are finally going good for them, they are each crushed with the knowledge that not only is Kat’s father dating Tristan’s mother, but the two are also recently engaged. Forbidden ends with this face to face crushing discovery. Next up is Seduction and I desperately want to know how this story will unfold. **Received a copy of the book courtesy of Forever Yours for an honest and unbiased opinion.**

4 out of 5 for this reader folks! Forbidden by Lauren Smith is part one of a three part serial called “Her British Stepbrother“. Before any of you decide that right there this may not be the book for you, let me tell you that this is classy writing. The couple finds out they are to become step siblings after the relationship has started. In my romance reads. I do not consider this taboo. I also found that Lauren writes this kind of genre in a very different manner than some of the other authors out there. Some authors can get very cheesy and again .. love that Lauren writes a believable story and keep it classy. Kat is a 19 year old good American girl who is attending college in Britian. She is tired of always being the good girl and decides on the spot that she is going to take a chance and do something a little crazy and wild. She kisses a perfectly hot stranger in the middle of a bar. Tristan is the epitome of “has it all”. He has the good looks, charm, body and he is also about to inherit a British title which makes him very .. uummm.. coveted. He is also bored to all ends. When he meets Kat in a bar and she plants the kiss of all kisses, something comes to life inside of him. In her he finds some excitement. Kat is something perfectly different, and will be the one to likely tame him, but except his wild side, all at once. Off we go on a romance ride. These two are smoking hot together, compliment each other so well, and of course have their typical relationship bumps .. well I guess finding out that you are getting involved with your step sibling may not be classified simply as a bump, but you get the picture! LOL I knew how this first part was going to end, and while typical, I have to say that it really didn’t matter to me. I enjoyed every single character building scene that when the ending came I was like … “Bring on the next part and let’s get this party started!” LOL I am pumped for the next part .. can you tell? Short, fantastic read, with the promise of more to come. Lauren Smith has turned into an “automatic purchase” author to me. HAPPY READING! :)

Immature Unrealistic. Poorly written. Written like a young inexperienced girl might think. Hard to finish. Definitely won't read more.

The last several months, possibly even year or so has seen a huge influx in the "stepsibling" trope of taboo stories. It seems like every author is throwing their hat into this ring and I have read a fair share of them, both good and bad. I am a big fan of Lauren Smith so when I saw she had one coming out, I signed up. Tristan Kingsley is an Earl-to-be in London, working toward an advanced degree at university. Kat Roberts is a very young (turning 19 as the book begins) American student at the same university. She was raised by her father, he by his mother. - Im sure you can see where this is headed. As far as the characters were concerned, I loved Tristan. He truly was a genuine guy who tried his best to get to know Kat and once he figured out her level of inexperience, he was a gentleman to his core. Kat, on the other hand.. she got on my nerves. She just would not cut poor Tristan a break. She held his past against him, things that happened before they even met, she judged him on. One thing that bothered me was the fact that Tristan acted like his heart was absolutely BROKEN when Kat rejected him after they had known each other for only 2 days. And they both kept referencing the fact that they had only met 2 days prior.. 48 hours ago. No way can you have insta-love for someone and have your heart completely crushed as bad as they both did within that short amount of time. That really took away from the validity of the story for me. The story flowed at a relatively fast pace. I was not tempted to skim or skip ahead at all. All of the characters were very well developed. The editing was great, I didnt notice any typos, misspellings or grammatical errors. As a whole, I enjoyed Forbidden a great deal and give it 4**** wickedgoodstars! I will recommend it to my friends and continue to look for more from Lauren Smith!

Forbidden, the first part of a three part serial by Lauren Smith, takes its readers on an emotional and sensual exploration. A cautious and solitary woman steps out of her comfort zone when tempted by a reckless bad boy. Past and present circumstances all point to the unobtainable, yet together the hero and heroine navigate their overpowering attraction knowing it is more than a casual fling. Fast paced, introspective and steamy Lauren Smith's writing is a voice like no other. Without a doubt book one of this author’s British Stepbrother serial will leave readers chomping at the bit for the next installment! *I received this ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review.* *This work is part one of three.*

Tristan and Kat meet when she almost trips right into him. The sparks are sure flying as this book heats up rather fast. Kat is trying to finish school away from the States and has settled near her father. Tristan has his own father issues. His father pushes him to be something he does not want. Then further enrages him by telling him to stay away from Kat. Will he concede? Or will he follow the heat to the fire? Kat and Tristan have chemistry that nearly burns them alive. It is a book full of stolen and heated moments that are sure to fire up many a cold night for the reader. I found them fun and charming together. The book just moved at a pace that felt kind of slow for all the heat it put out. I give it a 3/5 Kitty's Paws UP! ***This ARC copy was given by Netgalley.com and its publisher in exchange for an honest review.

Kat Roberts has been all over the world, her father travels all the time, but for the first time, she’ll be able to stay put for a few years while she studies at Cambridge. She has never had any sort of real relationship, because she knew she’d have to move, but she has made a few friends already. While celebrating her nineteenth birthday at a local pub, Adonis walks in. Actually Tristan Kingsley who seems like God’s gift to womankind, at least that’s what everybody is whispering at the pub. Kat, against all odds, is so dazzled, that she just goes and talks to him, then kisses him. She is a virgin, not model material, but for some reason, she fascinates him. Neither character acts as expected, and I found that refreshing; Kat and Tristan appear very different but they are much more alike than they could have thought. And the blossoming romance feels like it should, with its sense of wonder, awe, and wild passion. As the subtitle suggests, Kat and Tristan will have to face considerable hurdles, and I cannot wait to see what happens next! I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
