"Buckle up and hold on, because Forbidden Promises is breathtaking romance with heart-stopping action and unexpected twists and turns." -USA Today

Some lines should never be crossed . . . not even for love.

Sloan O'Malley just left her entire world behind-her family, her wealth, and even her real name. For the first time in her life, she's free. She can live the "normal" life she's always wanted: A life without fear. But there's nothing safe about her intensely sexy next-door neighbor.

Jude MacNamara has no room for innocence in his life. Only revenge. Still, he's never been able to walk away from the forbidden, and Sloan--who is every inch of pure, mouthwatering temptation--has forbidden written all over her. Only after it's way too late does he discover the real danger: claiming Sloan as his puts a target on her back. To protect her, Jude is willing risk everything . . . and to hell with the consequences.

I am cheering Sloan's move of leaving her mob family behind. This mousey woman finally allows her backbone to come out in this book #4 of the O'Malley series showing the reader a woman who finally comes into her own. The author slowly unravels Sloan's hard won independence and it is done with great finesse keeping the reader interested in how this book will end. The reader will continually cheer each time she overcomes another obstacle. For all those readers, out there who like alpha men, meet Jude MacNamara. Just wow! That being said I was quite mesmerized with the thought of how the author could turn this stone killer into a man worthy of Sloan or any women for that fact. Bravo.....job well done. I came to love Jude and become his staunchest fan. Sloan's family members are very prominent in this book and her sister Keira is one out of control girl. When her story comes, it will be explosive because with all of her problems I can't help thinking it will get real messy before it's done. Her older brother seems to pull on my heart strings. I keep justifying what he does no matter how bad and the next book will be his story and I am excited for it to come out. As in the previous book to this series the reader will be amazed at how the author through a series of wicked twists and turns come to a resolution that is very satisfying. For this reason, I give it 4-1/2 STARS. Received an advance reader copy in exchange for a fair review.

This is book 4 in The Forbidden Promises series and it features Sloan O'Malley and Jude MacNamera. WOW! A quarter of the way into the book and my mouth was already hanging open because I couldn't believe what was happening. I think I sat on the edge of my seat throughout the entire book. It was exciting and you never knew what was around each corner. And as I have said before, this author has a way of writing that keeps you aware of what's happening with all the characters at all times. Bravo Katee Robert! Another excellent story in a fantastic series!

I was really excited to read this book after getting a teaser from An Indecent Proposal #3 book and wow I really loved the chemistry with Jude and Sloan, I mean intense heat. Our favorite O'Malley characters are back with some dark ones too. This series just keeps getting better with each book, can't wait to read Aiden story in the next installment.

This book is the 4th in The O'Malleys series. This book can be read as a standalone novel. For reader understanding and enjoyment, I recommend reading this series in order. Jude has sinister plans for someone near Sloan. His past is full of secrets and lies. What could he ever hope to offer someone as innocent as she? Sloan has her own past full of secrets. She has her own lies she needs to tell. Jude is just eye candy until her curiosity cannot resist. This series just leaves me breathless! Just when I think nothing can surprise me.... well, I am not a spoiler so you will have to read it to find out. Know that this author never leaves you wanting. The characters are very rich and compelling in all sorts of ways. ***This ARC copy was given in exchange by Netgalley and its publisher for an honest review.

One of my tests of a good series is that when you get the next book, even if it is months or more later, you're immediately immersed in the action again, reconnecting with the characters and overarching plot. That's exactly what has happened with every book in this series for me and this one is no different in that respect. The series is concerned with the O'Malley mob family from Boston and the rival families. This story focusses on Sloan O'Malley who has always seemed to be able to slip into the shadows and stay in the background in the earlier novels but this is more about her endeavouring to escape from the expectations and dangers inherent with her life as the daughter of a leading mob figure. Her father has little time for his daughters, mainly seeing them as potential marriage partners he can use to create political links with other families to boost his own spheres of influence, without any regard to their feelings or wishes. Sloan knows she's probably about to be told who she is to marry and has convinced her brother to help her escape only to unwittingly attract the attention of her new neighbour, Jude MacNamara. He's an assassin out to revenge the slaughter of most of his family by Colm Sheridan but he can't resist the sweet innocence of Sloan. When others come looking for her he's going to have to determine how he can protect her - or sell her to the highest bidder! This is another fast paced, hot, action packed thriller with great characters and more details added to the overarching story. Both main characters are on journeys of self discovery, finding things out about themselves and each other, questioning and reevaluating their decisions and plans as the story progresses. There's plenty of intrigue, suspense and danger from start to finish and it is a real page turner that I have no hesitation in highly recommending. I know others have read this one as a standalone but I think you'll appreciate this one even more if you've read the earlier novels first. I received a copy of the book via NetGalley and chose to read and review it.

Sloan O'Malley craves normalcy, it's something she's never had and something she has dreamed of having for a long time, and now it is finally becoming a reality. But of course change comes with major challenges, for the first time in her life she will have to find employment, and pay her own way, and as much as it scares her it also excites her too. Everything is falling right into place... that is until she meets her handsome, yet very grouchy, new neighbor. Jude MacNamara likes a good challenge as much as anyone, but when he meets his new neighbor he instantly realizes she is most definitely a challenge he should walk away from, and never look back. But no matter how hard he tries to ignore the beauty living next door, she always manages to find a way to catch his attention. This one was kind of a new one for me, I haven't really delved into too many mafia novels, but I have to say I'm glad I decided to check this one out, it was quite the literary treat for me. The writing style was easy to fall right into, and the story line was very engaging and held me captive the whole way through. You can tell that the author put a lot of thought and care into the development of the characters, they were very well rounded, likable, and pretty unforgettable. I thoroughly enjoyed my time with these two, and having the opportunity to get a glimpse of fellow characters in the series, I am hoping to get back to them very soon. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of the title.

This is the fourth book of the O'Malley series, and oh, boy, what a a sizzling story! Sloan, the quiet one, finally breaks free of her stifling environment to start over on the Oregon Coast. Little does she suspect that her rude, rugged, and ripped neighbor Jude is there for nefarious reasons. This story takes you further into the O'Malley-Sheridan-Halloran-Dmitri quadrangle, filled with passionate love, heartache and action. How in the world will these families stave off the Mafia Armageddon that's sure to come?

Another great read in the O’Malley series! Katee Robert has once again crafted a tale that has the edge and grit of a mob story but also delivers a passionate and intense romance between two people who have no business or intention of falling in love, especially with each other. Both Sloan and Jude were great leading characters. Sloan is trying to create a new life for herself and discover who she is as a person outside the realm of the O’Malley family. Jude has spent his entire life seeking revenge and, after meeting Sloan, he too is trying to come to terms with who he is and how he might not quite be the man defined by the revenge he has spent his life seeking. I loved watching Jude and Sloan grow and struggle with who they were, who they are, and who they want to be. There was no removing the influence of their mob families from these characters, but watching them carve out an existence within the realm of their family ties was so well written it was easy to look past the bad and root for their happy ever after. And of course, no good mob story would be complete without all the interactions within and between all the mob families. This ongoing storyline was nicely woven into Jude and Sloan’s story and helped move the overall series arc forward without seeming forced. There are so many plots and sub-plots happening that overlap and are inter-related and the author does a nice job keeping the reader informed of any necessary back-story when needed as well as setting up some things for future books. Although this can be read as a stand-alone, there is definitely ties to the previous books in the series so it would probably be best enjoyed by starting the series at the beginning, but, as I mentioned, the author does do a really good job filling in the necessary back-story, so starting here will still make this a great read. As usual, Katee Robert has created a delicious, dirty-talking alpha hero (although I’m finding it hard to call a hitman a hero!) who also has a lot of heart and a heroine who has an inner-strength that resonates and grows with the story. This is a very fast-paced read with lots going on, but the story is put together seamlessly and keeps you moving right with it. This is definitely a must read for anyone who likes their romance with a bit of edge – and it will most definitely have you wanting to turn the pages to see what happens next while admonishing yourself for not taking your time to savor the story!

4.5 stars!! My favorite of the series. Love this O'Malley series and Sloan and Jude are my new favorite couple. Sloan is innocent in many ways and Jude is not! While he is out for revenge...she is learning how to live life on her own. Jude knows he should stay away from her, but he just can't seem to. Katee definitely writes good scene! Part of the joy of this series is the interconnection with all the characters. We get to see a little of almost everyone. Sloan has to learn to stand on her own two feet and Jude learns that there is more to life than his life long vendetta. This is one of the most enjoyable mob families and great story telling! I voluntarily reviewed an uncorrected advance reader copy of this book from the Publisher via Net Galley.

while a standalone, forbidden promises, is probably a book best read in its proper series order. i hadn't read the earlier books in this series and i found myself having to stop and make sense of the family connections and problems. daughter of an irish mob family, sloan o'malley has fled to avoid an arranged marriage that would secure her family's future. she's always been the one to do what was expected of her. so the fact that she fled, that she's trying to stand on her own two feet, it's a big deal. life outside of her family is pure freedom compared to the danger of living amidst her family's enemies. but she is still an o'malley. and while her brother who has joined up with the sheridan family might be protecting her, he's also more concerned about his own interests. and there's the hallorans to worry about. and the russian, dmitri romanov. (keeping all the mob family dynamics straight is part of the reason why i think this series is best read in order.) but really everyone should be worrying about jude mcnamara. he didn't seek sloan out. he wasn't watching for her, even though he knows exactly who she is. he was actually watching for her landlady, sorcha o'connor. but as much as he wanted to repel her interest, he can't help himself. he's crazy attracted to her. she's crazy attracted to him. and the intensity of that attraction as well as how quickly the stakes rise as their relationship deepens makes every moment they're together a crazy adrenaline rush. they have to go on the run, and the situation between siblings, between families grows precarious, and none of that matters as long as they can stick together. before they've fully accepted their feelings jude and sloan are a unit. they were meant to find each other. they should have never, ever met. jude is the last of the mcnamara's for a reason. but he becomes sloan's. and sloan is his. and she gets it now, why her sister chose some guy over her family. jude is her heart, her future, her everything. somehow he manages to get them out of the immediate mess they are in, but you can see where things remain up in the air. the next novel in this series looks like it will focus on aiden, the eldest o'malley brother. but i am most intrigued by keira's story. the dance she is currently playing with romanov seems to indicate that everything will come to a head in her story. the attraction between them feels so wrong, and so right. anyway, i need to do some catch up with this series, but the taste i got with forbidden promises makes me think that it will be worth it. **forbidden promises will release on may 30, 2017. i received an advance reader copy courtesy of netgalley/grand central publishing (forever) in exchange for my honest review.

This is a great read with lots of suspense and drama. I loved the chemistry between Sloan and Jude. The story is a fast-paced roller coaster ride that I just could put down. Sloan and Jude are on the run together and even though Jude is all alpha I love the way Sloan knows how to handle him. I great read!

You’re more dangerous than any drug I’ve ever heard of.” “This might not be forever, sunshine, but you’re mine for the duration. And I take care of what’s mine.” “There’s nowhere you could run that I wouldn’t find you.”….”And that gets you off like nothing else. Knowing that I’d rip myself apart to hunt you down, that I wouldn’t rest, wouldn’t eat, wouldn’t eat, would go mad with wanting you until you were with me again. To know that you’re f***ing irreplaceable.” Oh, man! What a great and exciting read from Katee Robert. Forbidden Promises is the fourth, thrilling addition to the O’Malley’s Series. While this is the fourth book in this series, I do believe that this book can be read and enjoyed as a stand-alone novel. Just be warned, there may be spoilers for the previous stories in this book. Told from dual points of view, Forbidden Promises sucks you in from the very first page. Sloan has disappeared from the life she once knew, desperate for a fresh start. She wants to forget her past, but knows that there is a chance that she’ll always be looking over her shoulder. What she didn’t plan on was her mysterious neighbor Jude. Jude just oozes trouble. Known to the town as a broody writer, there is more to Jude than meets the eye. The closer Sloan gets to Jude, the more in danger she finds herself. Will Sloan’s past catch up to her before her future even gets started? Will Jude be able to walk away from his dark past? You’ll just have to read this book for yourself to find out….. I’m just gonna keep this review short and sweet. Forbidden Promises was one entertaining read. I couldn’t turn the pages quickly enough to find out what would happen next. I loved the mystery and danger to the story. I enjoyed watching Sloan try to create a new life for herself all while waiting for the other shoe to drop. I honestly wasn’t too sure what to think of Jude in the beginning. He was hard and harsh. His body language just screamed trouble, but boy oh boy did Jude have one filthy, dirty mouth. Despite the facade that Jude was trying to put out, he had more in common with Sloan than he wanted to admit. These two were the perfect match. His wildness balancing her innocence. Together, they made one explosive couple. Sure, their relationship was a case of insta-love, but I think it lended itself really well to this story. I found their chemistry and their overall relationship to be exciting and I couldn’t wait to see how it would all play out. Overall, Forbidden Promises was a terrific read. It was sexy and thrilling and kept me on the edge of my seat.

'FORBIDDEN PROMISES' by Katee Robert is book Four in "The O'Malleys" series. This is the story of Sloan O'Malley and Jude MacNamara. I have not yet read the other books in the series so for me this was a standalone book. Sloan has left her family in Boston to get away from their Mafia Drama and start a new life on her own. Only her brother and his wife knows where Sloan is staying. Sloan has lived a shelter life where she didn't have to work and they had servants so learning to be on her own is a new adventure. Sloan has just found her first job and looks forward to being more independent. But one thing Sloan is finding hard to do is stay away from the neighbor she has. Their first meeting we learned was the night she first came to the cottage but he seem to make it clear he didn't want anything to do with her. Jude is a hit man who is looking to get to the owner of the cottage. Jude knows that Sloan is just a innocent girl and he tries to make a stand to stay away from her but that isn't looking to easy. This story had a very exciting and hot alpha male character with just a sweet determined leading lady. Really enjoyed this story! I can't wait to go back and read the other books in this series! The O'Malleys Series:The Marriage Contract Book 1The Wedding Pact Book 2An Indecent Proposal Book 3Forbidden Promises Book 4Undercover Attraction Book 5"My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily

Sloan managed to get away from her family and the oppressive life she used to lead. She had help from one of her brothers and he's assured her that nobody will be able to find her. Her biggest wish is to be free and have a life of her own, far from her criminal family and their underworld politics. She finds herself a job and finally she can start living the life she's always dreamed of. When she meets Jude she's instantly attracted to him, but Jude isn't safe. Will Sloan risk to lose her newfound freedom for a man and is she really as well hidden as she thought she was? Jude has one mission in life, revenge on the people who killed his family. He works alone and he isn't looking for complications, like falling in love with a harmless and inexperienced woman like Sloan. Especially not because when someone would link their backgrounds they'll be put in an extremely dangerous situation. It isn't easy to stay away from the woman whose company he craves though. Will Jude and Sloan be willing to risk everything they value in life for each other? Forbidden Promises is a gripping story. Jude isn't afraid to kill, he's used to hiding, spying on people and shadowing his targets. Sloan's had a sheltered upbringing and she's only just discovering what it's like to stand on her own two feet. Jude is her neighbor and he isn't who he says he is. Sloan feels at ease with him though. There are plenty of sparks and their chemistry is amazing, but their histories are complicating things between them. Katee Robert alternates hot scenes with underworld schemes, old and new feuds and unsafe situations. This kept me on the edge of my seat and I was really curious to find out if Jude and Sloan would be able to survive and have a chance together. Katee Robert's writing has a nice flow. She writes about characters who definitely aren't sweet in a raw and honest way. Jude is tough and ruthless, but he also has a soft side. Every situation is being described from different angles and that made the story extra interesting for me. I love how Katee Robert plays with the boundaries between good and evil. Even though her characters have flaws and they are rough and sometimes cruel there's plenty to like about them as well. This makes her stories fascinating and original. Forbidden Promises is a great book with a wonderful fitting ending.

I freaking love, love, LOVE this series! It's an elaborate and intense world filled with twists and turns. Seriously exciting! It's a tangled web of deceit, drama, love, and family. Excellent characters and details. This was so, so good. Loved every second of Jude and Sloan’s story. Sloan and Jude were awesome. I loved their connection, their feistiness and sparing. That bit of animosity in the beginning that draws them together as well as the attraction was fantastic. I've always been curious about Sloan, this quiet seemingly naïve girl and I loved getting to really know her. I thought she had an amazing transformation. I loved watching her come into her own, find her place and and become such a force of strength. And Jude, talk about a changed man. He seemed to be breed for vengeance and then here comes Sloan, knocking him off his axes. It made it so much fun to read. I loved that Jude was commanding and sexy and oh my with the dirty talking mouth. They both of so many wonderful changes taking place as they grow and come together. I loved their journey. Besides the love story, I loved the crime family drama that was happening, it kept me on the edge of my seat. Alliances, and backstabbing, and people thinking they know what's right and all these back door deals. Holy wow! The betrayal. The power dynamic between families and men and women. There was a lot going on but I love how it was presented. I’m seriously hooked. This is book four in the series so it was great to see how all the couples from past books and different connections associated to them have come into play. I love the continuing storylines. I love the multiple POV’s and getting a glimpse into everyone's head to see where they're. I was excited to get more Aidan and get some foreshadowing for his love interest and getting more details on Dimitri Romanov too. This wicked man totally fascinates me and I loved getting to see a different side of him. I will be beside myself when it comes time for his story. This story, just like the others in the series, is filled with emotion and heat, action packed moments, drama, an excellent love story and sexy times. It really has it all. The writing is excellent. Everything is just so well thought out and detailed. I loved the build and pace. It’s just all so exciting and awesome! A must read for sure! Complimentary copy received for honest review.

FORBIDDEN PROMISES is the fourth installment in Katee Robert’s contemporary, adult THE O’MALLEYS erotic, romantic suspense series focusing on three warring underground families of the Boston’s Irish mob, and the Russian mafia run by the Romanov family. This is mercenary for hire Jude MacNamara, and Sloan O’Malley’s story line. FORBIDDEN PROMISES can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from previous story lines is revealed where necessary although I recommend reading the series in order as there is an ongoing premise throughout. Told from several third person perspectives including Sloan and Jude FORBIDDEN PROMISES follows the forbidden romance between Sloan O’Malley and Jude MacNamara. Sloan O’Malley is on the run from her own family, and a father who is determined to marry off his daughters to men of his choosing. Sloan knows that both of her sisters have defied their father’s demands, and our heroine is determined not to fall ‘victim’ to her father’s ways. Hiding in plain sight, Sloan will fall for her neighbor, Jude MacNamara, never realizing that Jude’s history with the Irish mob is deadly and dark. What ensues is the building relationship between our leading couple, and Sloan’s determination to protect the family she loves from a hired gun. Jude MacNamara is h*ll bent on revenge, hoping to take down any surviving members of the family that destroyed his life. But meeting Sloan O’Malley puts all things into focus when Sloan reveals the truth about the people Jude is hoping to destroy. The relationship between Sloan and Jude is one of instant attraction between a woman on the run, and a man keeping secrets about his intentions and goals. Their quick building romance is spicy and sexy; our heroine was a virgin until Jude MacNamara came into her life. The $ex scenes are intimate, provocative and intense. There are a large number of secondary and supporting characters including most of the O’Malley clan: Teague and Callista O’Malley (The Marriage Contract #1): James Halloran and Carrigan O’Malley (The Wedding Pact #2),; head of the O’Malley caln Aiden O’Malley, and their sister Kiera, as well as the return of Dimitri Romanov who continues to seek vengeance against the O’Malleys and the Sheridans. There is a quick introduction to former police officer Charlotte Finch. Charlotte and Aidan’s story is next in Undercover Attraction. The world building continues to look at several underworld families, and sins of the past: revenge, vengeance, betrayal and loss, and the interconnected lives for everyone concerned. FORBIDDEN PROMISES is a passionate story line; an intense and fated romance; a suspense filled look at two people whose destinies collide on diverging paths. The premise is energetic; the characters are colorful, spirited and tenacious; the romance is rebellious, impulsive and captivating. FORBIDDEN PROMISES reveals the depths of familial honor when one of their own falls in love.

I enjoyed Forbidden Promises, I loved the dirty talking hero and the heroine who started as a timid caterpillar and evolved into a fierce butterfly. I also loved that it was not only action packed, filled with hot sex but that it also focused on the politics between the ruling families. I'm going to liken what went down to a game of chess because lots of pieces were moved back and fort on the board forming strategic alliances that changed the dynamics between the them so much so that it's anyone's guess what the endgame will be. I for one cannot wait to see what happens next. I definitely recommend this book and series to not only lovers of mafia themed books but also to lovers of Contemporary romance that has a Romantic Suspense feel to it. ***Review posted on The Eater of Books! blog*** Forbidden Promises by Katee Robert Book Four of the O'Malleys series Publisher: Forever Publication Date: May 30, 2017 Rating: 4 stars Source: ARC sent by the publisher Summary (from Goodreads): All Sloan O’Malley ever wanted was a simple life—and now she’s finally got it. She’s left everything behind in Boston—her family, her money, even her name—and set herself up in a tiny seaside town in Oregon. What she doesn’t plan for? Her mysterious and painfully attractive neighbor, Jude. Jude MacNamara has been many things in his life—pampered son of a prestigious family, only surviving heir to a lost legacy, hit man—but now he’s out for revenge on the man responsible for the death of his father and brothers—Colm Sheridan. He’s tracking Colm’s sister when he encounters Sloan living with her in her beach house. He’s a patient hunter and he’s willing to sit back and wait for his prey...he just doesn’t expect for this woman to give rise to emotions he hasn’t felt in years. He doesn’t want to see Sloan hurt, but in order to protect her, he will have to turn his back on the one thing he’s spent his life pursuing—revenge. Even then, there’s no guarantee either one of them will make it out alive. What I Liked: From the start, I knew that this would be a very different book compared to the previous three. I loved The Marriage Contract, and enjoyed The Wedding Pact and An Indecent Proposal. The books have been incredibly engrossing, entertaining, and sexy. This book was all of those things, and yet it is distinct when compared to its predecessors. I loved Jude and Sloan's story - I think theirs is my second-favorite of the series now! Sloan O'Malley, the fifth O'Malley child in a brood of seven, has finally gotten out. With the help of her older brother Teague, she has fled Boston and is neatly ensconced in a small seaside town in Oregon with an old woman - Sorcha Sheridan. Everything is new and interesting to her... especially her next-door neighbor. Little does she know, Jude MacNamara has been watching her new house. He has been tracking Colm Sheridan's sister for a long time, for revenge. And now he has found her, but he didn't expect Sloan O'Malley to appear. Sloan doesn't know at first who Jude really is, but it doesn't matter: one looks is all it takes. Jude and Sloan can't keep away from each other. But it's not long before the dangers of Boston catch up with Sloan, and Jude's own deals catch up with him. Jude will have to choose between his plans of revenge and his growing feelings for Sloan, and Sloan will have to decide if Jude is worth it. This book had a bit of a different tone, compared to the others. Maybe because most of the book is far-removed from Boston, and all of the crime stuff in Boston? Not that the crime stuff doesn't come up - remember, Jude is very much involved in all of that (not that Sloan knows, at first). But the crime and the Russian mafia and all that aren't physically present in most of this book. Which makes the story a little more about our couple, especially in the first half. I always felt bad for Sloan in the previous books, but I didn't love her, necessarily. She seemed a bit bland to me, and not outwardly strong as her older sister Carrigan, or her sister-in-law Callie. She isn't as stubborn and rebellious as her younger sister Keira. Every book in the O'Malley series has been suspenseful and fraught with danger as well as sexy but this book just took it to another level. Sloan O'Malley has escaped from Boston and her family with the help of her brother Teague. But her other brothers and sisters don't know where she is or if their enemies have her so they are searching for her. Sloan meets Jude who is mysterious and also very dominant as well as secretive. They start to get together and within a week when both their identities come out, they make a choice to run together. Aiden is looking for Sloan but also found out information out about his brother which angers and devestates him at the same time. We also see Dmitri their enemy start to show interest in the self destructive Keira. All in all it's a great love story for Sloan and Jude bug also sets up future stories for the O'Malleys. This series gets better and is never repetitive.

This was a great book! I love this series, and I was so looking forward to this book. It did not disappoint! Sloan O'Malley just left everything behind and ran. She's from a Boston mob family and she wanted out. The only thing her future would have held was a political marriage, arranged by her father, and she wanted no part of it. Her older sister Carrigan, the heroine from book 2, had already ventured out on her own, in a different way, and Sloan decided to get out too, and for good. Her older brother Teague, the hero from book 1, offered to help her disappear, and she took him up on it. He sent her to Oregon to a house owned by his wife's aunt, with whom his wife, Callie Sheridan, has never had contact before now. Sloan thought she would be safe. But, are any of us ever really safe? Especially someone like Sloan, who comes from a family of criminals. A family with many enemies. Jude MacNamara is a hit man. He's the last surviving member of his family. The rest of them having been taken out by the head of the Sheridan family, another of the 3 major Boston mob families. He swore revenge for his family, and he's spent his whole life going about getting it. He's biding his time in Oregon, waiting for his next target to finally show up. He bought the house next door in order to lie low and wait for her to arrive. His target is the sister of the man who killed his family. But, who shows up to stay in the house but Sloan, with no idea about anything going on behind the scenes. Jude is taken with her from the first, but he has no intention of letting her, or anyone, disrupt his plans. Best laid plans, however... Jude is a huge guy, and thanks to the authors dedication, I have to assume his resemblance to Brock O'Hurn is to be insinuated. Yes, please. He's dark, and broody, and he catches Sloan's attention right away. But, he was rude to her the first night she hit town, and now she's a bit wary. She has no idea how wary she should be! Jude is drawn to Sloan's innocence, and her strength. She doesn't see strength in herself, but he sees beneath the surface, and he likes what he sees. Much more than he should. It leads him to thinking about a different kind of life, for the first time ever. I absolutely loved the dynamic between them. Neither Sloan, nor Jude, nor any of the main characters in this series are true innocents, or heroes. They have all seen and done very bad things. Sometimes to survive, sometimes for power. Even Sloan, though she was a virgin, and had never been directly involved in her family's business, has witnessed things that could put her family members in jail, but she would never dream of going to the police. Nothing is black and white. It's all about shades of gray in this world, and the gray is so intriguing. The author makes you love them all, against all odds. Sloan and Jude had chemistry like whoa. They were combustible from the start, and the filthy mouth on Jude was sexy as all get out. They had to take a long winding journey in order to truly be together, and I loved every second of it. They really had to struggle, and they both put themselves in harm's way, to fight for their life together. The pacing was quick and exciting, and you never knew what new obstacle would pop up. I love the excitement of the world in this series. One of the great things about this series is how the romance plots are HEA, while the ongoing issues in the mob war continue throughout. I'm really looking forward to the last 2 books!

Oh, this series. Ms. Robert gives us the most impossible scenarios--makes us want to see couple together that are made up of the last two people on earth who should ever be together, makes us think that an HEA is going to be impossible, and then somehow still manages to deliver one. I have no clue how she does it, but OMG, does she ever have me hooked. Jude and Sloan's story is no exception. These two are all wrong for each other--never should work--but yep, they totally do. I mean, I knew she'd get them together somehow in the end, but even at 85% still wasn't sure how she'd ever manage it...which is exactly how she keeps me turning the pages like an addict. I see what you did there, Ms. Roberts. And yes, your not-so-subtle hints about who the last two single O'Malleys are going to be hooking up with is going to have me hitting that "to-read" button oh-so-fast...
