Loved it! I have always lived in the city that as I was born in so doing something so daring as Susan did was exciting to me. To pick up and move from the U.S. to China for a two-year stint was daring and brave on her part especially with two small children and not knowing the Chinese language. I couldn't understand why she did not learn some Chinese before she went or take some Rosetta Stone classes but perhaps that is the perfectionist I have in me but this book had all the elements for me. I felt the confliction Susan faced within herself as she wanted to rely on others in her time of need but also felt she needed to stand on her own two feet. The female relationships she built were built on so many levels and it was good that she realized that and she was able to write about that. The journey she took was amazing and the people she met made it a once-in-a-life-time opportunity. It was truly a powerful, lovefelt story yet a story you, the reader could reflect upon and make sure you are seeing your life as a big picture and really enjoying it. Thanks for a wonderful read! I won a copy of this book on Goodreads for a honest review of this book.

i could not get past the end of the second chapter. the author doesn't take the time to explain the emotions of her characters. she doesn't even explain what her main characrer looks like. I finally gave up and moved into another book.
