About the Author

Catie was born and raised behind the pine curtain in East Texas. Her favorite memories of childhood are sitting around listening to her family spin yarns. The stories all had one thing in common: each had an element of the mysterious or the unexplained.

Those weird stories molded Catie into a purveyor of her own brand of lies and legends. One day, she found the courage to start writing down her stories. It changed her life forever.

Catie Rhodes lives steps from the Sam Houston National Forest with her long-suffering husband and her armpit terrorist of a little dog.

When she's not writing, Catie likes to cook horribly fattening foods and crochet or knit stuff nobody wants as a gift. She also reads a whole helluva lot.

**ARC RECEIVED IN EXCHANGE FOR AN HONEST REVIEW * * This was one helluva of whodunit! My first read by this author and while it began a bit dry eventually as you continue to read and get to know the characters and the story, you can't help but become engaged in the story. I had so much fun trying to figure out who could have done it while simultaneously enjoying Peri's character. She was full of sass and witty comebacks, for a woman who has suffered nothing but condemnation from an entire town, just because she's a little different, she grew up to be tough as nails. I loved her character and I totally look forward to reading the rest of her series! SR

I really enjoyed this book. It was a great mystery and thriller and I never quite knew where it would lead. The characters were great and very real. I hadn't known quite how the seeing ghosts bit would fit in, but it was perfect. I'm looking forward to reading the next book.

Wow! Catie Rhodes has produced a paranormal mystery, infused with elements of romance, that hits as hard as a Colt .45 slug from a Texas Ranger. Told completely and in flawless fashion from the perspective of her lead character Peri Jean Mace, the depth of immersion is respectable considering the exclusive point of view. The inhabitants (physical and otherwise), history, and community of Gaslight, Texas come alive through the narrative. The result is a novel one is hard pressed to put down. It is at once a ghost story, a whodunnit, and the tale of a young woman fighting a lifelong battle. Her memories and challenges weave through an intense and captivating crisis initiated by the murder of a lifelong friend: one to whom she now owes favor. The reader is pulled along through a twisting, turning, complex story-line to what can only be described as a literary crescendo. This novel is well worth your time and easily earned its five-star rating.

After 70 pages I knew who the "bad guys" were. Just skipped ahead to page 230 to see how the author wrapped it up. No surprises here.

Catie Rhodes is a new author to me. I'll definitely be stalking her now! I will say that I was worried at the beginning of this book. It started a bit slow for me. I kept wanting something "exciting" to happen. I'm glad I stuck with it though. The author creates a continuous slow building of tension by using small clues or seemingly insignificant happenings. The protagonist has a lot of baggage, and the reader sees through her eyes. It's hard sometimes to distinguish her prejudice from what's really happening. There are so many people involved, doing odd things that make them suspicious. It's like a big game of clue. I was along for the ride and didn't really know whodunit until Peri Jean did. I'm glad there are more books in this series. I'll definitely be grabbing the next books ASAP.

She has always seen the dead and it made her a freak to everyone in her small Texas town. Growing up different, she was a misfit without true family support. When Peri finds her cousin brutally slain, she is determined to find who the killer is and why they did it, but little did she know she would go from person of interest to person on the run from the mystery killer himself. It seems her cousin was less than a reputable lady and the crowd she ran with was filled with possible suspects. When all signs point to a dear friend of Peri’s she knows the cronies of the town are less interested in justice than keeping their own secrets. The new cop in town and Peri don’t know whether to just have a face off and be done with it or jump each other’s bones for all the passion they could share. Until Peri can unravel the clues from her deceased cousin, there is a murderer on the loose and he won’t stop until Peri is out of the picture. Small town minds, small town tongues, small town laws, and one woman who dares to stand alone to find the truth from beyond the veil. Forever Road by Catie Rhodes is a twisted mystery with a paranormal peek beyond the veil of death where everyone has their own secrets. Great characters, particularly Peri who sticks out like a shining star against her supporting cast who play their parts well, from villain to victim to mysterious dark entity. Mystery lovers will have fun trying to figure out who dunnit! I received this copy from Catie Rhodes in exchange for my honest review.

Peri Jean Mace sees ghosts. She knows things others cannot know. She is considered crazy by her small community and has learned to hide her ability from others as a result of things that happened in her childhood. At nearly 30 she is divorced, doing odd jobs and living with her grandmother. Her cousin Rae, just out of jail, also lives on her grandmother’s property and is not an easy person to get along with. When Rae is brutally killed and her ghost begins to follow Peri around, hoping to put her murderer behind bars, Peri’s life is turned upside down. Add into the mix a childhood girlfriend she doesn’t trust, a high school boyfriend who is her best friend though not her lover, a new cute deputy that sets her blood afire, a church minister with the hots for her and a crime to be solved that has more twists and turns than a switchback mountain road and you have a well written story that is definitely worth reading. I liked the fact that the characters all have secrets and rather messy lives. There is a lot that is explored but a whole lot left to be uncovered in future books of this series. I have always found the idea of seeing ghosts intriguing and have heard there were aunts on my father’s side who saw ghosts and even talked to them around the dining room table. Not having had that experience personally I find reading about such things entertaining. This is the first book I have read by Catie Rhodes and it is my hope to read more of her stories in the future. I was offered a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

You are quickly drawn in to the mystery as Peri goes through the steps to find out who killed her cousin. The author has done her research well and she paints a story with true places and facts. No one is perfect as you will find between the pages of this story. The story is very enjoyable with likeable normal people from a paranormal view. The author pulls you in giving you a believable story before long she will have you believing in the supernatural. This is an action packed and heartwarming read. I had laughed, felt like crying, and am looking forward to the next installment. Ms. Rhodes has a unique writing style that pulls you in with the wording of her expressions which will make you chuckle. The characters feel like family you come to enjoy them as the author takes you through the hunt to find out who did it. I did fell it had a slow start but it wasn’t long before I was into the read. This is a good start to a new series.
