Forged in Fire by Fraser Scott

Secrets. Scheming. Magic.

Secrets abound on the island nation of Godewyne. The fact that defenses are weak at the King's seat, Castle Godewyne, is not a secret to power hungry noble Aderlard Maculinus; nor to court Jester Josh who seems to be closely guarding a few secrets of his own. Speaking of secrets, what is the hidden agenda of the royal assassin and what is Wickenshire's blacksmith, Ranulf, hiding about his past? How will Ranulf's secrets affect his orphaned grandson/apprentice Rollie?

Will these and other secrets be revealed or pushed into the shadows with the arrival of a mysterious stranger who wants to commission Rollie to forge an odd Druid token out of a mysterious metal?

And once the secret of the token is revealed will anything ever be the same?

The debut novel from Fraser Scott, "Forged in Fire" is a new addition to the great Fantasy tradition of Jeff Wheeler, James Maxwell, and David Eddings and is the first book of The Godewyne Chronicles (Book 1: Forged in Fire, Book 2: A Song Among the Trees, & Book 3: Rollie Revealed).

About the Author

Fraser Scott is an accomplished story teller, dog owner, theatrical lighting designer, yacht racer, college professor, wine enthusiast, avid reader, and obsessed writer. He is a history buff with a twisted sense of humor and sometimes he uses naughty words. His first foray into writing novels is the book series: "The Godewyne Chronicles" (Book One: Forged in Fire, Book Two: A Song Among the Trees, & Book Three: Rollie Revealed) with book 4 due out in winter 2017.

"When I was a teenager, during the summer, after I got off work, I liked to sit in the shade of a big maple tree in our back yard with an iced tea and a book. My favorites were fantasy books; the best were the series. I'd get lost in the legends and ancient chronicles of wizards, warriors, fairies, quests, guardians, magic, gods, sorcerers, dragons, demons, champions, elves, angels, and fantastic beasts -- from 'The Lord of the Rings' to 'The Belgariad' to 'Shannara' to 'The Elric Saga' to 'The Eternal Champion' series - I just couldn't get enough. I was born too early for the Harry Potter books and George R.R. Martin's 'Game of Thrones' and the 'Wheel of Time' and 'The Lightbringer' series by Brent Weeks, so I had to read those without my maple tree (and the iced tea was replaced by a frosty IPA). I'd like to think that there is some kid (or grown up kid like me) who's reading 'The Godewyne Chronicles' under a tree somewhere, getting lost into the story, eagerly awaiting the next book in the set while, at the same time, hoping the book they're reading won't end."

I love all of Jessica Scott books. I love the way she writes and how real it all is. This book is very close to the store of my first try love. He did not a prove of the army life for woman but my grandfather served so I was going to. Five years in we met up again and I out rank him. Jessica books are great when I need to know there are other woman out there just like me who are doing what they want and love. However this is my last year so I can be at home with my kids. I have given the USA 16 long years and now my kids and husband need that.

Wow! What can I say? Jessica Scott can really make you stand up and take notice when she is writing about the tough things that our Military and their families have to deal with. I have enjoyed her military romances from the beginning, but few stand out more than some of the others and this is one of them. Captain Sal Bello is just trying to get his men ready for their next tour, but he has his hands tied with chain of command, paperwork and his men don't do well back home and have found trouble from day one. Holly Washington is brought in to help iron out the problems and help get them all ready for their next tour, hopefully with very little complications. Sal and Holly don't always see eye to eye dealing with complications and work issues, but their attraction for one another is definitely going in the same direction. Their relationship is frowned upon in the Military, but they find their relationship goes beyond attraction to friendship and support. They find healing in each other. Lori P

Holly is, by far, my favorite Jessica Scott heroine! I'm sure it's her sarcastic nature and her tough exterior that draws me the most. Sal Bello is the perfect counter part for Holly Washington. He seems set in his ways, but finds that he can learn a lot from Holly's ability to see things that Sal hasn't let himself see, within his troops and within himself. I always love Jessica Scott's telling of things I really know nothing about. The war and the things military people have to deal with on a daily basis in their lives. It is eye opening to me and I honestly love the candor in which she shares the things I know she has seen and lived. But, I don't want to forget the "romance" part of this book! She never lets me down on that aspect! The love is great and sex is hot! Love this book and this series!

You will fall in Love with Holly & Sal. In fact you will love the whole series. It seems to be a continuation from the Coming Home series but all the books can be read as stand alone books. But take my advice and read both the Coming Home and the Homefront series. You won't be disappointed. It's one of my all-time top ten series reads. This author tells it like it is and makes it all to real. You won't be able to put this book down. I was given this book for an honest review.

ARC provided by the author in exchange for my honest review. I have loved every one of Jessica Scott’s fiction books and this one is no exception. I was sorry to learn that this will be the last one in the Homefront series, set at Fort Hood. Each one of the stories in this series is moving and has my emotions all over the place. I love a good story that can make me feel what the characters are feeling and going through. Holly is a strong leader and she uses humor and sarcasm to hide the scars she has from past personal trauma. Sal feels much more comfortable when he’s at war and being back at Fort Hood doesn’t really sit well with him. It doesn’t help that Diablo Company has major problems with a lot of turnover in personnel. Holly and Sal don’t get off on the best foot but that just makes the story more interesting. How they overcome their differences and get to their HEA is a compelling story that kept me reading into the wee hours of the morning. This story is part of a series but can also be read as a standalone story. While I’m sorry to see this series end, I’m sure that Jessica has a lot more stories to tell and I can’t wait until she writes them.
