This is the story of Teddi and Clint. Their parents were involved in a scandalous incident that left both children orphaned, though their experiences were very different. Clint grew up in a orphan boys home, he comes to terms with the fact that his friends and the townsfolk treat him differently than before he was orphaned and he holds on to a hate for the Donovan family, until he meets Teddi and realizes she is as much victim as he is. Teddi’s family by contrast is quite wealthy. While her material needs are being met, she can’t help but feel an outcast in her own family. She is held hostage to family secrets that could eventually tear her life apart. The book follows the two characters from childhood, where they can’t help but be friends despite their differing circumstances and the disapproval of her family and the townsfolk. In their teens they fall in love as only teens can, but reality butts in and things don’t always work out they way one might hope. The culmination of the story takes place in the era of World War Two. Teddi and Clint are adults and must make their own choices, but the truth of what happened that awful night and a town full of secrets, ingrained social biases and prejudices, will work hard to tear apart their relationship once and for all. This is a beautiful story with characters so fleshed out it is as if you aren’t reading at all, but living it. This is at the top a love story, but it is set against a background of such an intricate elements of life in this small town, that it provides an intense emotional narrative. The amount of detail is such that it will hook you from the first line and keep you turning pages until the final words. It is wonderfully evocative and beautifully written and not at all what I expected. This is a perfect book for book groups. 5 stars I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review

Loved this book!! Best story I've read in awhile. The story was so well written & I was actually sad when I finished reading because I wanted to stay in the world of Teddi & Calvin's life set during the second world war. This book is so much more that just a romance novel, its one of friendship, family, & how secrets can destroy the best of us. Can't wait to read more by Allison Whitmore. ARC provided by the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

If you are looking for a great love story, this book is it. Not your typical star crossed lovers genre, nor YA tale, this book takes place WWII era in a small town called Brookhurst during the Great Depression where you learn about characters Teddi and Calvin. Meeting as kids, both are orphaned when Teddi’s father kills Calvin’s dad. In a small town, the actions of Teddi’s parents cause her to lose friends and be ridiculed in hush and harsh gossip. The tragedy also makes Calvin an outcast as he is openly ridiculed and called a filthy orphan. Thus, the beginning of their relationship was not on good terms. But a friendship begins during their teenage years and soon as they grow older their friendship turns into a forbidden love affair. This well written novel is one that you can completely immerse yourself in the romance. The characters are well developed and if you have a love for books with strong female characters, you are going to love Teddi. She is strong, independent and pushes against what society thinks she should be and who she should love. She is not only fighting for Calvin but for her happiness. It is great to read about a strong female character in this era. The book spans across several decades through this coming of age story and does so beautifully. You get a small history lesson and will truly be routing for these characters as they fight for their own destinies regardless of the environment that surrounds them. Really a lovely read! Will recommend it to others!

Reviewed by Trudi LoPreto for Readers' Favorite Forget Me Not by Allison Whitmore is the story of Teddi and Calvin – two young people who should not even be friends but find themselves deeply in love. The story takes place in the early 1940s in a small quiet town in New York where the residents are far away from the war raging in Europe. Teddi lives with her domineering grandmother and grandfather; Calvin is alone and living in the local orphanage. We quickly learn that Teddi’s father killed Calvin’s dad and the two families are anything but friends. Teenaged Teddi and Calvin, against all odds, become quick friends and form a friendship, a bond of love that will never break. They had to fight the odds against their sister and brother, grandmother and townspeople, going off to war, and people trying to harm them, but through it all Teddi and Calvin kept their love alive. They are soon entwined in a mystery that will answer the many questions Teddi and Calvin have concerning their pasts, but it takes a back seat to their romance. Forget Me Not is a beautiful story of young love and the hard road to maturity for two very different people. The mystery of finding out how and why their two families were enemies was reminiscent of the old Hatfield and McCoy feud. Allison Whitmore has given readers a delightful love story that spans the time from young love to married life with children in a very heartfelt story. Forget Me Not had a little of everything – history, mystery, friendship, love and sadness; it was all good and enjoyable reading.

This book had everything that I look into for books. Historical Fiction - Life about small town during the Great Depression and World War 2 (Check) Childhood Friends turned lovers (Check) Forbidden Romance (Check) Mystery (Check) I loved every second of this story and loved it more when I was listening to Moonlight Serenade song by Frank Sinatra. It got me to the mood of the time period. I loved Teddi, she is so cute and super relatable. My favorite line in the book is when she is talking to Calvin about how she feels that the she loves her hometown, but she sometimes feels that it doesn’t love her back. I get that feeling. I love her relationship with her sister Liza, the one that is in a forbidden romance with a Jazz musician, and Teddi’s relationship with her family. I loved it!
