After being completely invested in the story of Aileen and Addison in Shadowflesh and enduring the ending that Shawn Martin brilliantly served up, I wondered how could he bring it all back in line and continue on in the footsteps of such an amazing debut. Without missing a beat, Forget Me Not ratchets up the tension with a painfully brutal twist in the love story that belongs to Aileen and Addison. Grab a tissue, you may get your heart wrenched out within a few pages as a sinister being places a cursed cameo around Aileen’s throat and she loses a precious memory, her love for Addison. If you didn’t understand the depth of their love in book one, trust me, this will bring it all home, especially as Addison’s pain is so clearly evident and Aileen is so completely oblivious to his feelings. Even the questions from her closest friends fails to unlock her heart or her memories, but as time goes on, there is just something about the handsome boy that pinches at her memories, brief flashes, dreams of another place that all end before she finds what she is seeking. How can Addison’s heart want her to remember when being with him is so deadly and dangerous? In fairytales, a kiss makes everything right with the world, but for Aileen and Addison, it could become just one more layer of hell. Congratulations, Shawn Martin! You have made me a huge fan, I need more of Aileen, Addison and the world you have created! To everyone else, I have to say, Mr. Martin has conquered the world of YA dark fantasy/romance with his ability to sense the next move or twist and jump on it, full force. This tale is executed brilliantly, its magnetic, the world that Shawn Martin has created comes alive, on down to the last dust mote floating in the air, reflecting the sunlight.
