Since school is about to start I decided I should brush up on my skills for my next year 'It would be my freshman year in High School' I took Algebra 1 last year in middle school but didn¿t really understand it, I would only get half of the equation and end up getting it wrong, but the other day while I was in Barnes and Noble I picked up this book because an employee recommended it and I was blown away,I read 3 sections in the store and understood 99.8% of it, I do recommend this book to anyone who needs a little extra help in Algebra.

I am planning on attending college for the first time this year. Having been out of high school for nearly 12 years I knew I would have to do some serious refreshing on my math skills before I took the placement exam. I was hoping and praying to make level 2 placement, and honestly with the help of this book I ended up making level 4 (for pre-calc). This book isn't without it's short comings, however. I came across a few answers to problems that the author got wrong. Not many (maybe 3 total). Most of the chapters are explained well, but some feel like they rushed through the explanations. Often I would have to redo a chapter two or three times before I finally grasped the idea. The sections I feel needed explained better were some of the exponent and square root problems, and some of the heavier quadratic formulas. One thing I really did like was that the book dedicates a few chapters on how to do basic fractions. Again, may not be hard for everybody, but when you haven't used them for YEARS it was a benefit to have those chapters. Good variety of problems and excercises to perform. Only real gripe with that is it seems that the answers I would get wrong would be the ones they wouldn't show the work on how to solve them. For the most part they do a excellent job of breaking down the steps to reach the solution. Overall I would highly recommend this book for anybody looking to brush up their skills.

This was recommended by my instructed to get up to speed on Algebra for a class in Finite Math but the algebra in the class was very specific and had to do with financial matters and included very little complete algebra knowledge. I am sure I will pick it up from time to time if I choose or will pass on to someone who needs it more. Satisfied with the transaction, time of delivery and the explanation of the book.

I bought this book to prepare for a placement exam. The book was great. The chapters were in good order building off of the previous chapters. Some of the answers in the back of the book didn't "show the work" so I didn't know where I went wrong, but for the most part the book was easy to understand and follow and I would recommend it to others in the same boat as me..going back to school 16 years after high school! After using this book I scored very well on the placement exam.
