Who would have ever thought that a meeting in Ireland would make a great story in the US...Well "Fork in the Road" does just that. A book that isn't easy to put down, but easy to continue reading.

I won't go into detail, as those above already did so, but I wonder why this book has not received more notice than it has. I laughed out loud and it held my interest, so much so, that when I got toward the end, I had to finish it, never mind that it was 2 a.m.. I never heard of this book and found it while browsing.

Gina Furey took me to a netherworld I did not realize existed in modern society. It is joyous, hysterically funny and heart wrenchingly sad all at the same time. She is truly a 'heroine'to remember. I couldn't put this book down. It is truly a treasure that seems to have yet to be discovered.

This is a great book to read while laying in the beach. It takes you away to another culture. You can get lost in this book. I loved the 2 main characters and the attachment that they have to each other. I did have some problems with the Irish slang in the beginning but then I got lost in the book with the main characters. I would highly recommend this book to anyone that likes to read fiction.

New York filmmaker Colin Coyne visits Dublin seeking inspiration for his next project. He plans to make a movie starring an Irish-American from Queens, New York coming to Ireland in hopes of finally finding a woman to cherish, love, and marry just like his parents. Colin would not mind if his own life imitated the project.

During the Holy Hour at the Shelbourne, Gina Furey tries to pickpocket Colin. However, his butt remains a tad sensitive from his journey and he catches her. She turns the table on him by accusing the yank of a failed pick-up. She escapes into the night, but he feels he must find her. When he succeeds, an on again off again love affair starts with two conflicting lifestyles, her thieving background and his middle class American heritage at war.

FORK IN THE ROAD is an entertaining love story that will thrill fans of My Fair Lady and Pygmalion. The story line is fast-paced and filled with sass especially when Gina and her family steal the plot. Though Colin seems a bit pathetic and fails to gain reader empathy, he is the perfect straight man to Gina and her predatory brood. Denis Hamill switches gears from his thrillers and newspaper column to write an endearing, amusing, but often acerbic and melancholy tale of modern day cross star lovers.

I read this book on a flight to Hawaii. Much as I wanted to sleep, I couldn't put it down. I felt like I was watching a very good mystery/love story. The suspence kept me turning the pages. This author has mastered the Irish manner and voice. I instantly got attached to all the characters. The family of travelers was as bizarre as any Felini cast. So many emotions were explored throughout the chapters. The juxtaposition of Ireland and New York was fascinating. There was never a dull moment.
