O'Toole was a member of the "99 group," the full-study committee of GM management and United Automotive Workers (UAW) members that developed the unorthodox (at least by industry standards) program of the Saturn. Though he represented the UAW union, he describes the events and conflicts surrounding the Saturn's development from both union and management perspectives. O'Toole's commitment to the Saturn project was total, and though his account of the events is perhaps not totally objective, it is comprehensive. Though an index of names and a glossary of brief biographies of the major players would have helped, this is a valuable account of the Saturn and its place in U.S. industrial development.
