Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Wendy Ricci
Ten true stories tell about some of Montana's most famous animals that have been admired for their strength, intelligence or loyalty. The stories range in time from 1805 to the present and include animals such as Seaman, Lewis and Clark's dog who was an excellent hunter and protector of the men, to Two Toes and Giefer Grizzly who killed livestock, broke into cabins, and avoided hunters, to Shep, a faithful friend to a Montana sheepherder who had died. The stories highlight the fascinating "love-hate" relationship that man has with his fellow beings and give us insight into man's gradually changing attitudes. At one time, people did their best to exterminate animals such as wolves and grizzly bears, but today these animals are very much protected and considered a necessary part of our wild world.
