The forest was quiet and cold all that year. King Tidbit and his helpers would arrive bringing cheer. The occasion always happy, each child knew this too, that special day soon would arrive right on cue. Remembering the magic only Tidbits could create, they rushed to prepare themselves, no time to hesitate.
One strict Tidbit order was that all faces be clean, so they scrubbed and they rubbed till they sparkled and gleamed,
each freckle appeared to cast off quite a sheen
and the children then knew to go on with their scheme.
Now thousands upon thousands of children did march all in a line, with their feet beating in time and every child's eye kept a watchful lookout, for their hero King Tidbit who would soon be about. What confidence to have, they showed not one single doubt. Furry squirrels peeked slowly from out of their nest, they peeked from far east and they peeked from the far west, as the children marched by never stopping to rest. Soon they came to a spot with green grass growing plenty, their marching soon stopped to make themselves ready.
So the children got busy collecting the wood that would create the grand fire to bake the cake good,
When all of sudden they heard rustling of leaves and a whippoorwhill's call on a soft whistling breeze.
