Overview

From Bad to Wurst by Maddy Hunter

It's Oktoberfest and the globetrotting Iowa seniors are sharing their Sounds of Music adventure with several oompah bands whose dream of performing in a famous German beer hall is about to be realized. But when a deadly relic from wartime Munich rains disaster on the group, their dreams are shattered—until an unlikely guest offers them new hope.

The tour hits a sour note when tragedy strikes a guest who knew the musicians' most guarded secrets. Was the death an unfortunate accident or something more sinister? As the group travels from the beer tents of Munich to the fairytale castle of Mad King Ludwig, Emily strives to restore harmony. But with the situation escalating out of control, could the gang be looking at a terrible end to their German interlude?

Maddie Hinter uses her talents to take us to places many of us will never visit, but have knowledge of and make us feel as if we are there. Each books is a fresh tale that we can escape into for a few hours as we indulge our armchair travels. The characters continue to draw us in like old friends even as Ms Hunter introduces us to new friends. There clues hidden in the well-crafted story that will give hints as to the actual culprit, but I either figure it out about the time she does her big reveal. May you continue to have a long and luxurious run with this series. I look forward to your next novel soon. My rating is 4 1/2 stars.

Another great book in the Passport to Peril series. Once again, Emily and her intrepid senior travelers from Iowa head off to Germany during the Oktoberfest and 3 groups of oompah bands join them in the hopes of playing at some halls. No book in this series would be complete without at least one death. Is it murder or an accident? In this outing, Emily is married to Etienne and he accompanies her on this trip. When a bomb explodes at a construction site, Emily is injured and one of the tour group is killed. The group tends to the injured construction workers and they are deemed heroes. They are offered the opportunity to play at several of the best known Oktoberfest functions around Germany, but the woman who was killed was the accordian player from one of the groups. Will they play and honour her memory? Who knew that Emily's father could play the accordian? When another member of the tour drops dead of nicotine poisoning, the hunt for the murderer is on. Another fun read. I received a copy of this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
