GET YOUR TISSUE'S READY!! Wow, this was such a moving romance novel about second chances. I loved how the author went back and forth - from the present to the past to build her story. At times I was more frustrated with Julianna, especially the last 1/4 of the book. I also, wanted to smack Gray because he was moving on when he knew he couldn't. Don't want to be a spoiler so not going to divulge more. But this is well worth your time and money to enjoy this amazing story. There is lovemaking that is very mild, just enough description that you know what they are doing. The secondary character's add a lot to the story too, some good some bad. I didn't give it 5 stars, because our H/h got me frustrated at times, otherwise, 5 stars. (ljb)

It is difficult to get through hardships that happen in life. Some incidences scar you so much that a person can feel like there is no happiness or love in the future. This beautifully written novel takes you through the lives of Julianna, who had once been Julie Ann Mason and Gray Sheridan. They were married when Julie Ann was 18 and Gray, 21, but a tragedy sent Julie Ann running, hiding, and alone. Her hurt caused her to change her name. Gray, who has had his own nightmares, finds her 10 years later, and they end up stranded with three others in a house in Honolulu, buckling down to get through Hurricane Eve. Julianna and Gray are forced to face each other, and Gray insists on exploring their lives in between, as neither of them have been able to move past the tragedy that occurred early in their marriage. The other main characters, Dillon, Paige, and eight-year-old Jody are a perfect balance during the storm, and each have their own strengths and determination to protect Jody and each other. I look forward to reading the other books in this Tales of the Pacific series. Emilie is brilliant in the way she gets her readers to learn to cope with the many things that can affect all of us.

Liked the book. Appreciated the plot. Loved all the characters. Just got TIRED of Julianna denying what she felt for Gray. I wanted him to just leave her alone until she admitted she loved & needed him as much as he admitted to his feelings. I could understand her hesitation and fear but I soon tired of her denial over and over and over again! I just wanted her to admit her feelings or just let him go already! Didn’t need to be beaten in the head over and over again about her fears. Sheesh!

Keep tissues handy. As others wrote this is an emotional story - one where there was a lot of torment by a very powerful judge because he felt the girl his son loved came from the wrong side of the tracks. It was not until many years after she made her escape from the toxic family that the truth about what happened to her finally was revealed. There was still a spark of love in her for this man; but, by this time he found someone else and had given up on his first love because of the lies told to him by his father. When there are three people involved in love, one is sure to get hurt; and, one did. It is a beautiful as well as horrific story of how lives intertwine and become complicated. A final decision must be made- who loves whom as they seek shelter during a hurricane.

A tearjerker for sure. Although at times I wanted to smack Gray for being such a wimp. He allowed his father to control everything. At the beginning he was able to withstand the family pressure, then he buckled. Julianna started out being a strong woman, then Gray didn't believe enough, so leaving was the smart thing to do.

I give out very few 5 stars. This book kept me interested from the start. It was also brutally honest about the emotional traumas of certain events from both his and her stand points and grudges kept far too long for lack of information on both sides. I look forward to reading the next 3.

It has been years since I have read a book that has gripped me the way this book has. This book had me feeling all different emotions. Anger, sadness, pain, laughter, both happy and sad tears and an intense desire to smack Gray upside the head on more than one occasion. I loved this book and I am happy it is a part of my nook collection. I cant wait to read the next one.
