I loved this book! I thought it was very well written and told Mark's life story perfectly. I was fascinated to read stories about his family life and past history (very interesting!) When I heard that a 'biography' was being written about Mark, I thought....excellent! I want to know about his childhood, likes and dislikes, etc. and this book covers every aspect of his life. A page turner, with each paged filled with funny facts and breath taking details based on Mark Farner's life. Now and then! It was all that I had hoped it would be. Very insightful, lots of great information for Farner Fan's! Things are written in the book, that fans would never know.... like Mark's love of aviation and he gets up each morning at 3:AM! I LOVED IT! Many great old photos, rare and many never seen. Very Entertaining reading and the CD is great! I love the song 'Glory Bound' an EXCELLENT bonus with the book. I highly recommend this book and CD. A must for any Mark Farner fan!
VERY IN DEPTH AND REVEALING. MARK DIDN'T HOLD ANYTHING BACK.(DID HE EVER?) HIS DIRECTNESS ABOUT ALL HIS ASPECTS OF HIS LIFE IS A BREATH OF FRESH AIR. SO MANY AUTOBIO- GRAPHIES GIVE ONLY SLURPY FACTS AND EXCUSES FOR BAD DECISIONS, NOT THIS ONE.HE FACES THEM
Kris Englehardt does a great job of portraying Mark Farner--rock superstar, husband, and father. There are many great stories here of the 'glory years' of Grand Funk Railroad, as well as Mark's family life. The music business may appear wonderful and glamorous on the outside, but behind the scenes it can be a double edged sword. This book tells the story of a rock legend who took the kicks and punches in the late 60's and early 70's and beyond as part of Grand Funk Railroad, and never quit. Mark continues to electrify audiences with his solo shows to this day. The CD that comes with the book is great, too--mostly reworkings of his Christian rock solo material, but good nonetheless.
Kristopher Englehardt does a great job giving us a look into the world of 70's Rock icon Mark Farner. Englehardt's research and inteviews on Farner are fantastic. Classic rock fans will love this story of an American Original. This book is a great look into the life of Rock's 'Ordinary' Superstar. The publisher also includes a CD with some of Farner's unreleased material from the 80's. The book and CD are a great value for the price.
