About the Author

BIOGRAPHICAL PROFILE

Cedric Myrick, Sr. was born March 3, 1962, in Montgomery, Alabama, to Nelson & Hattie Myrick. Cedric is the elder of three siblings, Marie Myrick-Mckitt, Wanda Myrick-Murray, and Wilburt Myrick,

Cedric has been married to the former Tina Renice Moore, of Birmingham, Alabama, for twenty four years, and the couple has two daughters, Erica and Kaila. Cedric also has four children from a previous marriage, Shanetra, Tamara, Cedric, Jr., and Brittany. He is the grandfather of one,
Ira Davis, Jr.

Cedric attended elementary, junior high, and high school at Saint Jude Educational Institute in Montgomery, Alabama, which was founded by Father Harold Purcell. Saint Jude is known for its part in the civil rights movement. In 1965, Martin Luther King, Jr., and 2,000 participants of the Selma-to-Montgomery March found shelter there including Cedric himself. In March 1990, the City of St. Jude was the site of the 25th anniversary of the Selma-to-Montgomery March.

After high School Cedric briefly attended Alabama State University, before joining the United States Army for two years, and then transferred to the United States Air Force where he spent the next twenty-three (23) years.

Cedric made a promise to his mother that he would return to college and complete his degree. After ten years in the Air Force he made a call to his mom and told her he had enrolled in college at Strayer University in Washington, D.C. Cedric completed two Associate Degrees, Computer Information Systems, and Criminal Justice, and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Information Systems.

Cedric's love for poetry started in high school with his English Literature teacher Ms. Betty G. Gilmore, whom he thought was the world's most outstanding teacher. She informed him that a black man could dream and go as far as his mind would take him.

1 September 2006, Cedric retired from the military after twenty-five years of service. At that time he decided to devote some of his time to writing poetry. His poetry expresses his understanding and feelings about Nature, God's will for us here on earth, the things we go through, and why we go through so many obstacles, which impedes our progress.

His poems are intended to allow the reader to realize that this earth is a magnificent place, and only God could have done this.
