Gerlinde (Lee) Pizzuto grew up in World War II Germany. As a teenager, she and her family escaped in front of the Russian invasion. After finishing high school, she went to England to study nursing. Emigrating to the United States, she continued her studies. She married and joined the Army, rising eventually to full colonel. She also taught nursing at San Quentin Prison.

Gerlinde (Lee) Pizzuto faced the hardships of growing up in Nazi Germany. With her drive and determination, she was able to overcome obstacles and fulfill her dream of coming to America with hardly anything in her pocket. She persevered, working at San Francisco General Hospital, continuing her studies to become an RN and marrying the love of her life, Patrick. Through all her experiences, she loved life. She loved gardening and helping people to better themselves. She passed away in April 2017. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
