Regarded by many as Lope de Vega's finest work of drama, 'Fuenteovejuna' dates back the Golden Age of Spanish literature (16th and 17th centuries). A classic example of the popular Spanish 'comedia', 'Fuenteovejuna' is the story of a small town which rebels against its tyrannical royalty-appointed town leader. After executing the 'Comendador' for his injustices, no one confesses to the murder, while the entire townspeople claim in unison that 'Fuenteovejuna did it.' With an Aristotelian view of the law, Fuenteovejuna successfully justifies its tyrannicide.
