Demon summoner Kara Gillian bears the scars of Rhyzkahl’s treachery, but she refuses to let them slow her down. She and the demonic lord Mzatal have not rested in their efforts to recover Idris—Mzatal’s summoner protégé who was kidnapped by enemy lords—but now their search has brought them back to Earth.

With the help of FBI agents Ryan Kristoff and Zack Garner, they begin to track down summoners who are working with Rhyzkahl. However, Kara knows Ryan’s true identity, and questions of loyalty threaten to tear apart this group of allies. When Kara intervenes to help a brilliant young computer expert and his bodyguard after an accidental shooting, she quickly learns that Rhyzkahl’s machinations run deeper than she could have ever imagined. The search for Idris takes on a desperate edge as their enemies increase in number, and Kara realizes that an old homicide case may hold the key to their success—or their doom.

With the very fabric of the universe at stake, Kara must rely on her skills, wit, and luck to save her friends and her world, yet ancient vows will have to be broken if she is to have any hope.

But the price of breaking those vows may be her own blood.

Fury of the Demon is the exciting sixth installment of the Kara Gillian series.

What People are Saying About This

From the Publisher

"Rowland completely upends the Kara Gillan series in this installment. Everything we thought we knew about the inhabitants of Rowland’s universe is called into question, with devastating results. Rising star Rowland kicks it into a whole new gear with this outstanding story that is heartbreaking, terrifying, and utterly thrilling!" —RT Book Reviews (top pick GOLD)

"I was awestruck at the twists and turns and the, 'Oh man, why didn't I see that before!' ... This series is top-notch in the genre. Gritty and dark, this is really good reading!" —Felicia Day

"A nifty combination of police procedural and urban fantasy." —Charlaine Harris

"A killer mid-series offering. It’s hard to believe that any book could create as much anticipation as the climactic end of Sins of the Demon, but Touch of the Demon opens up a whole new world, mythology, and love life for Kara, leaving me dying for book six." —All Things Urban Fantasy

"Touch of the Demon is hands down the darkest, grittiest installment yet, and it was absolutely fantastic." —Sweet Tidbits

"I don’t think there’s a world quite like these books, nor do I think there’s a character quite like Kara.... It’s a truly excellent book, and my main problem now is that it’s set such very high expectations for the whole year." —Fangs for the Fantasy

"Diana Rowland knows what Urban Fantasy readers want, and she delivers every time! ... Ms. Rowland gets two thumbs up for a job well done. I absolutely cannot wait for more!" —Night Owl Reviews

I was happy we went back to Earth in book 6, and more familiar ground.  Kara and her companions are once again solving a mystery; the mystery of where is Idris.  There is so much going on with the evil Lords trying to take over the world; only Kara and Mzatal standing in the way, then there is the immanent Rowan threat.  The action and suspense was nonstop.   I will admit that Diane Rowland broke my heart a bit in Fury of the Demon.  Now if you been reading the series you know what is going on with Ryan, so it’s no surprise.  If you haven’t read it, stop right now and don’t read any further, because this is a bit of a spoiler. I have been looking forward to Kara and Ryan getting together from the beginning of the series, but now with Szerain in charge, and Ryan slowly slipping away, my hopes are dashed and I am left broken hearted. Sniff, sniff.  The ending of this one is just a HUGE WOW! I am immediately starting the next one, Vengeance of the Demon....Sara

Alas we have to wait until next year for the sequel to Kara Gillian's story. Not the heaven and hell demons your thinking of but rather an alternate dimension. Rowland is becoming my favorite author. Think Temperance Brennan meets Kim Harrison and your close.

Book 6 picks up a few months from the cliffhanger ending of book 5. Kara and her new demon lord mentor are continuing to search for their summoner friend kidnapped by the bad guys. It also continues on with the major changes to Kara and the world around her that started in book 5. Well, technically in book 4 when she was forcefully summoned to the demon realm. At the same time, the format of the story shifts yet again. In this book Kara gets herself a posse. A full-formed Scooby Gang. Take that, Buffy! I love, love, loved the police procedural theme of the first four entries in this series. It was one of the best examples I had of real world elements integrated into a paranormal novel. At the same time, I equally love the evolution of Kara, the setting, and her abilities. Between the changes and the amount of time spent on the demon realm, I find myself wondering more and more about the nature of the Lords. It also has raised plenty of questions about Kara. She definitely seems to be a potent strain of demon-lord-nip. What Fury of the Demon really excels in from my point of view (other than giving me a theory that anyone sitting down to play Author D&D with Pat Rotfuss will automatically add 30% more pages to their next novel), is to blend the new abilities and setting aspects of Kara with the real world police procedural elements that were lacking in the last novel. If you are a fan of detective novels, or like a little buddy cop with your supernatural story, you will love this novel as much as I do. There’s snark, mystery, sidekicks and sexy times in it. A little something for everyone. Additionally, I also picked up the audiobook version so my wife could have access to it as well. The narrator for this series does it plenty of justice. Not to mention it is over 20 hours of audiobook goodness. Overall I give this book… 5 stars out of 5

I really enjoyed this book and it is on my pile to read again because I know, like with Touch (book 5) I missed things on the first time through.  This is not the place to start the series. Each book builds on the foundation of the previous books, and this one in particular would be challenging without having read the others. As for the basic story, after a short time of preparation in the demon realm, Kara heads back to Earth and reunites with Ryan, Zack, and Jill. Interpersonal relationships are put to the test and dirty laundry aired. Rescuing the captured Idris is the overall obvious goal, but there are a couple of other strands that are more important to the arc of the whole series. And its hard to say anything about those without spoilers!  There weren't any new demon characters introduced, so no new names to learn.  Gestamar and Jekki were around for some of the time and Jekki even had a visit to Earth.  A couple of new human characters made an entry (with easy names!). The author did a great job of getting me to care about the secondary characters almost as much as Kara, and that's not easy to do. I'd probably read a spin-off written around one or more of them. Tessa was not on many pages, but still figured prominently in the unfolding of events and mistrust. The bottom line is that I loved this book and want to know not only what happens to Kara in the upcoming books, but with the different demon lords, Earth, the demon realm, and all of the secondary characters.  Highly recommended.
