Game Changer by Beth Orsoff

When it comes to relationships Samantha Haller has seen it all. As a top LA divorce attorney she knows love doesn't last. On a rare night out at a Hollywood nightclub she isn't looking for love, or even a relationship, but with the help of a spiked drink she may just let loose and have some fun for a change.

For sports agent extraordinaire Jake Jensen dating means sex, nothing more. That's why his "relationships" last, on average, two weeks. As long as the women go away quietly and don't make a scene, he's fine with that. Finding a new one to take the former's place is never a problem for a handsome, generous, eligible bachelor.

They both want sex with no attachment--what could possibly go wrong? They could fall in love . . .

Budding relationships provide a treasure trove of possibility for books of all kinds, especially in humorous chick-lit. Miscommunication (or lack of communication) almost always plays some role, just like in real life. That Jake and Samantha both want the same thing, something negotiated thousands of times in only a few hours every Friday night in singles bars everywhere, adds to the humor. Of course, sometimes that real people, just like these characters, don’t always know what they want, doesn’t help. A fun story with great characters. **Originally written for "Books and Pals" book blog. May have received a free review copy. **

I had an epiphany during this book. I realised these 'relationship' novels just aren't for me. I find them exceptionally bland and, dare I say, boring. I couldn't have cared less who slept with whom or how many orgasms were achieved in one night. Having previously read and thoroughly enjoyed Beth Orsoff's Honeymoon For One, I was disappointed with this effort.

Samantha/ Sam is a divorce lawyer and Jake is a sports agent. Both don’t think they are the marrying kind. Samantha has seen the toll of a bad marriage and everything in between. Sam’s sister Whitney is engaged to Jake’s best friend’s brother in law Michael. Jake and Sam are thrown together .They have the insta/ attraction. Sam’s not a pushover and doesn’t rush right into sex with Jake. Especially as Jake is a player. But Sam and Jake learn things out about themselves and each other. I liked this story a lot. It was funny. It was sex with no ties which I didn’t really care for. But I didn’t want to put this down. But I didn’t particularly like Whitney she seemed selfish and self centered but she is how Jake and Sam met so she served her purpose. This story was predictable but still liked it ,it was an enjoyable read. This was fast paced. I liked the characters a lot for the most part and The ins and outs I liked a lot and I recommend.

This started out as fun, flirty and funny. Jake is the ultimate playboy, Samantha is the straight laced divorce lawyer. The first time they meet, Samantha was accidentally drugged and flirted shamelessly with Jake. Her girls pulled her away before anything could happen only to meet him the next day at her sisters wedding. Samantha is so embarrassed about the night before, she convinces Jake she wasn't the woman at the club. They go there separate ways again only to be thrown right back together again. What follows is a constant run of misunderstandings and interruptions between these two, just trying to act on their mutual attraction. The longer this goes on, the more they get serious with each other and finally manage to hook up. Then Jake finds out Samantha lied about not being the girl at the club and this is where the story turned for me. Personally, I think Jake turned into a huge hypocrite. He made too big of a deal about Samantha's lies and did things that I just couldn't like him for. Fortunately, he does finally learn the error of his ways and we do get a HEA. I really wished the conflict in this story was handled differently by Jake because I would have loved this book. The writing was mature and 75% of the book was a very fun read. Because of that, I will definately read more from this author. ARC provided by NetGalley.

A fun read..... Sam & Jake are dedicated to their work with no interest in a personal relationship. The way they met is unique & I really enjoyed watching their romance grow. Whitney (Sam's sister) drove me crazy though- not a big fan of hers. Beth Orsoff created awesome "side" characters too.... I could read a story about Caroline (Jake's assistant) & her "second sight" right now. The only real complaint I have is that the book was just too short ;) Advanced Reader Copy provided by the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
