Jonathon Brooks moved across the country to live with his work-aholic dad and attend a special art school. But is it worth it? He has to deal with the bully at the bus stop, being estranged from everything he knows and a struggling relationship with his dad. He loves to draw and he loves reading graphic novels. Unfortunately, or fortunately, for him, when he wishes to escape reality, he does--into the graphic novel he's reading. And he lands back in the 1920s complete with mobsters, flappers and car chases. I really liked how the author dealt with murder and such high stakes in a middle grade novel. This is appropriate for all readers of any age. Even adults will find themselves rooting for the hero as he learns what it takes to be one!

Ansha Kotyk has written a great adventure story for any kid (or grown-up) who loves getting lost (literally!) in a book. Jonathan Brooks wants nothing more than to get out of his own life...he thinks he can lose himself in a book, but little does he know that life in the book is worse...much worse!
