I quite enjoyed this novel. The pace was fantastic, and Vinnie, the main character was young, flawed, and realistic. The dom/sub aspect was written in a believable manner, with realistic fears, desires, and concerns. I'd definitely read a sequel.

I liked the premise of this book, the struggles that Vinnie had, with his desire to be a bottom, but his instincts to manipulate. This could have as easily been called topping from below. I also really like this cover! When he was in High School, in a military academy, Vinnie met the new gym instructor, Charleston and lusted after him. After he left school, he started spying on Charleston, not the smartest thing to do, but he was hooked. Then, through a really convoluted series of events, Charleston returns into his life. There is a lot of sexual tension and desire in this book, but only one real sex scene and that's at the very end of the book. I liked a lot of book, but one thing that jarred on me was that we never really saw what Charleston felt for Vinnie. He was protective and attracted, but I didn't get any sense that he cared for him even half as much as Vinnie loved him back. I know D and S is about power boundaries but it felt like all the give was on Vinnie's side, and all the control was on Charleston's and I would have liked a bit more tenderness, with the rope work and whipping... Well written with fully fleshed side characters but the plot itself, and the psychotic villain was a bit silly, and the actual relationship development was weak. We got no sense that Charleston had any feelings for Vinnie at all, other than responding to his desire and enjoying his obedience. 5673 locations - substantial length, a book, not a novella.

Vinnie Bernardi does everything he can to leave his life as a repressed rich boy behind in the past where he feels it belongs. He is building a new life for himself as a proud guy submissive. Though he is finding that only one man has ever been successful at dominating him and Vinnie finds himself craving that man more and more everyday as he slowly falls apart. Vinnie has always thought the man he wants unattainable but with Vinnie unable to hold it together he decides his only option is to make a move on Charleston to see where it might lead. Charleston is a military academy instructor that is also the only man to dominate Vinnie successfully. But when Vinnie bumbles his way into Charleston’s attentions Vinnie unwittingly stirs up Charleston demons from the past. He also brings phantoms from Charleston’s past out that just might not let Vinnie survive long enough to find what he is looking for: love and the man strong enough to shelter both Vinnie and that love. This story is interesting but would have been better with more back story and more interaction between Vinnie and Charleston. While the characters have depth, the readers do not get to see enough of what lead the characters to this point in their lives. The reader will get some insight into the characters histories and it is interwoven well into story there is just not enough of it to be really satisfying. While the premise of the story was a great idea, it just needed more scenes with Vinnie and Charleston to pull it off successfully. This one can easily be left on the nightstand. I give this one 3-1/2 red roses
