Overview

Gem of a Ghost (Ghost of Granny Apples Series #3) by Sue Ann Jaffarian

Emma Whitecastle would rather spend time with her boyfriend than help Joanna Reid get rid of her husband's ghost. But when she finds out Joanna's daughter has broken her engagement and attempted suicide, Emma and Granny Apples are compelled to investigate.

The multifaceted mystery unfolds in Hollywood, where a vengeful spirit strikes too close for comfort as Emma and Granny unearth a clue hidden in a haunted diamond. When the case leads Emma and a suave stranger to the historic mining town of Jim Thorpe, Pennsylvania, Emma must call upon a ghostly group of Molly Maguires to ease the pain of a century-old marriage gone bad.

Praise:

"Jaffarian's welcome third entry in her paranormal series sparkles as brilliantly as the story's haunted diamond."—Library Journal (starred review)

"Jaffarian's comic timing, seemingly simple plotting and perfectly pitched dialogue make this entry in the Granny Apples series a complete delight."—RT Book Reviews

"Award-winning author Jaffarian provides plot surprises and plenty of dark elements to texture this well-crafted cozy. Emma is a complicated heroine, and readers of Victoria Laurie and other paranormal suspense authors will be most pleased."—Booklist

"A sweet and sassy third Granny Apples mystery."—Publishers Weekly

I enjoy Ann's writing! There are always unexpected twists and turns and she is great at drawing the reader into the story. You feel that you are standing side-by-side with Emma solving the crimes and being amongst the ghosts. Enjoyed the historical references to the town in Pennsylvania and would like to visit the sights where the premise of the story takes place. I imagine a trip there would envsion your mind as if you were stepping back in time and making the story come alive. Maybe you'd even meet a few of the ghosts along the way! I am at the edge of my seat waiting for the fourth book in the series and anticipating how Emma's relationship with Phil and her new interest, Quinn will turn out. A bit of mystery, suspense, history, family, and love all wrapped up in each story. What else could you ask for?

Sue Ann Jaffarian is one of my favorite authors. While reading her books, you feel as if you are right there with the characters. The Granny Apples series is such a fun read. Granny is hilarious and the type of Grandma we would all like to have. :-)

If you enjoy light reading, this is the book for you. I rarely do not finish a book, even one I'm not enjoying a great deal. But, even after resorting to skimming, I still couldn't handle the cloying preciousness of the characters and the complete lack of any depth or imagination in the plot. Seriously, please tell me adults do not really enjoy and recommend this trash!
