I am not the genealogist of the family, that's my sister's things. But I've heard her say again and again that "You have to have written evidence," and this book agrees. The book also reminds you not to assume anecdotes are true and that there are historical assumptions we make that simply aren't true. If you go through all of the types of records this book suggests your search will be exhaustive and thorough and hopefully provide you with the family information you're seeking.

Genealogy has always been a bit of a guilty pleasure and when I was little a "crazy" Uncle was very into researching our family. As I've aged, I've regretted not paying a bit more attention, as he has since passed and I am more curious than I was then. To remember this- and get some reading materials for a long flight- I got this book and was pretty impressed by it. For me anyway it moves the entire research process from the stereotypical perception of digging through dusty newspapers and faded photos to online options- which I guess I knew were there but never really thought about it. This pinpoints it. Not only does this book give you some great digital resources to look to, it more importantly gives you tips on what to look for- and what not to. I could have easily gotten frustrated or just plain been wrong had I decided to start this process without some of this information.

I have always known and been very proud of my Celtic heritage from Ireland and Scotland, but don’t know much more than the fact that I have rich Celtic blood flowing through my veins. I’ve wanted to know more specifics and find out what personal ties I have to the Emerald Isles from my ancestors, but I really thought it was a complicated and expensive process to research my genealogy. How wrong I was! I sure wish I had found this book years ago…it is such a well-written how-to guide yet so much more. It makes me feel like I have my own personal guide walking me through the process in the pages of this book and I can’t wait to get started on my own journey to my roots.

This book is a really good guide to genealogy research. It gave really clear step by step guidance on how to search through your family history. The book also covers some issues when researching genealogy, such as blocks or lack of information. I like how the book discusses how to properly keep records, and differences in record keeping between countries. It also discusses how you should back up all information found with documents which is very wise. I found the guide very useful, and would recommend it to others. There is much more information in it, and it is simple to read.

I have been dabbling in genealogy for a few months now. I find it takes a ton of research and it's difficult at times to determine if certain information is accurate. This book leads you through what you need to know from locating and evaluating original records to interviewing relatives. Whether you are getting started or already in the process of ancestry research, Genealogy Simplified is a very useful resource.

This book is a fantastic resource. It is a really good guide that works you through everything with easy to understand steps and directions and gives advice and tips for what to do when things don’t go as planned. It can be hard to find out all of the information that you want or need and there are lots of obstacles that can come up. I found this book very helpful in that regard. It is just an excellent book for a beginner or hobbyist looking to learn more about their family.
