I used to avoid Nature and seek comfort in life. As a result, I grew in girth and had to find a form of exercise I could enjoy. I found the gym boring, but this book motivated me to get out and not only enjoy Mother Nature, but get some exercise, too. The book is beautifully presented with easy-to-understand narrative, excellent maps and hiking trails my corpulent body can handle. Anyone who is really bored on the treadmill would do well to buy this uncomplicated, but comprehensive hiking book.
There's a great deal of geological information in this guide, but the geology novice will not be intimidated. The writers present the educational facts clearly and gracefully, and you feel you are with them as they hike.
I wasn't sure that 'geology' trails are what I wanted, but I am always looking for new scenery, and this book definitely paid off. It tells you what to expect on the trail, whether its plants, animals, or minerals. Not just about rocks, for sure, but the geology parts are very interesting. I am looking forward to doing a lot more of these trails. Well-researched. Entertaining writing style. Most of the trails are short and easy, located in public lands, perfect for the novice.
This book makes hiking educational as well as good for the body. One need not be a science major to understand the scientific parts.
