Much of this volume is devoted to the happenings on the British side of the Atlantic, ending with the resignation of Lord North in 1782.

Sir George Otto Trevelyan (1838–1928) was a British statesman and author—twice Secretary of State for Scotland. He is the author of several books, including The Ladies of Parliament (1869), a humorous political brochure written in verse; The Life and Letters of George Macaulay (1876), about his maternal uncle; and The Early History of Charles James Fox (1880).
