Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
This small book overflows with interesting facts about George Washington Carver. Not only is the biography informative, but it is inspirational. The text piques the young reader and the adult reader's interest in Carver and agricultural science. The sixty-four-paged book contains nearly forty pictures depicting Carver's life as an agricultural scientist, painter and teacher. The straightforward language quickly provides the information that the chapter title indicates. The first chapter captures the reader's attention by introducing Carver as a persuasive speaker. This chapter displays Carver's determination for success though the odds were not in his favor. The following chapters continue to display Carver's determination as it chronologically describes his pre and post Civil War childhood, his education, and his career. Like the other books in the "Giants of Science" series, this book includes a glossary and a list of important dates. The curious reader will be excited to see the For More Information section because it provides more resources to continue research on George Washington Carver. 2002, Blackbirch Press/Gale Group Inc, Ages 10 to 14.
