Part of ABDO Kids’ United States President Biographies series, this 24-page book uses large photos on each odd-numbered page to illustrate the text on even-numbered pages. Red, white, and blue figures prominently on the cover and on half the pages. The font is large and four words are written in gray ink, identifying them as words to find in the glossary. It is interesting that one of these words is “widow” because while students will invariably find that word on a vocabulary test, it seems an odd choice as a glossary item in a book about an American president. An index and link for addition resources rounds out the text. This biography is appropriate for beginning readers and those new to America; more depth is needed for older readers.
