This was truly a amazing book. I loved the dynamics of Lyla and Beck. The characters were highly well developed. These two had a strong bases for their friendship. What happens when you finally decide to change your whole life because you are tired of how the world seems to view you? You create a bucket list and recruit your male best friend who is viewed as what I would consider a "Manwhore". Lyla wasn't aware that it is not necessarily how the world views your outside it is seeing that your inside is so beautiful and you just need to believe in yourself and project that to the world and then people see you for who you are and that can only make your life have so much more meaning. I love how her male best friend really truly sees Lyla for the first time other than being her buddy. With Beck she learns to gain confidence in herself. The flow of the storyline was seamless and I personally found no flaws in anything that was written. It was a story that you couldn't put down from beginning to the very end. The author held me captive with no where to go except in finishing this great book. I have read several books by this author and have found it isn't your typical NA book where most authors are walking on the very grey line of the genre of NA and erotica. This book isn't about the sex, its about two best friends finally finding themselves then totally creating the perfect relationship that could be timeless due to the fact they started out with a truly fantastic friendship. I highly recommend this book and every other book this author has written. She has the gift of words where she is able to give her characters 3 dimensional qualities and being able to mesh a great love story mixed with lots and lots of comical moments that had me rolling over laughing for some of the situations that these two characters get into. I received a NetGalley copy in exchange for a honest and unbiased opinion. I will definitely be recommending this to all my friends.

I wanted to read Getting Lucky Number Seven because I like hockey in real life so the male main character intrigued me. I am also kinda nerdy and socially awkward at times so Lyla is certainly a female main character that I can relate with.     Lyla is smart, but she also hasn't really been on a date since her and her steady and also nerdy but long distance boyfriend broke it off. She always seems to find the wrong things to say, and she feels plain. She wants to make some changes so she gets her best friend, who is the aforementioned hockey player, who is also gorgeous, and sweet to her, but he does seem to go through girls with no commitments, so a relationship or anything beyond friends has seemed off the table because that is just how their friendship has worked so far.     He coaches her and goes with her to a party, her wanting to let loose some and experience alcohol, kissing a stranger, and other seeming rites of passage. But as he helps her learn to flirt more, and as she shows some more skin to go along with her corny jokes, and their easy conversation, he can't help but see her in a new light.     They both fight the attraction for above reasons, and that makes it even more delicious for me. The building tension and the theme of friends to lovers kept me involved. I also loved the humor. Cindi writes in a way that makes it easy to get lost in the pages, the romance, the character development, making me alternate between swoon and laughing.     The ending was nice, but they did have to deal with some hard issues, both from the past as well as one that Beck created because he thought he was doing the right thing. But I liked that they got the promise of a HEA together. I liked that Beck gave himself options for the future, instead of making decisions based on what others wanted for him. I also liked that Lyla found a nice balance of keeping up her grades, trying new things and being true to herself.  Bottom Line: Hot and funny story about friends who become more to each other.

Getting Lucky Number Seven is the best book I've read this year. Sorry to everyone out there who've been hoping that I might say that of their books, but this one just made me have all the happy warm feels in the world.  I loved the whole friends to lovers storyline, because really, isn't that how most relationships start off in reality? I also loved that we got to see the hero and heroine being friends first for a big part of the book before they made the literal jump into bed. I also loved that they managed to stay friends while having a lot of hot sex. Lyla is definitely my kind of heroine. She's nerdy and quirky and insecure about her body. She's the perfect description of most girls out here in the real world. She studies hard and makes lists of nearly everything. Of course when it comes to her bucket list, there's no slacking off in the list department. She puts her mind to something and she goes out and does it in spades. I loved her from the start and when she made her transformation from covered-up to showing what she's been hiding under all that, I loved her even more, because she still stayed the same quirky, nerdy girl that we get to know and love in the beginning of the book. The hero, Beck, well he's just amazing... Ice hockey isn't much of a sport here in South-Africa, but man, Beck just makes me wanna watch ice hockey forever. He's supposed to be a player, but in fact he's just the sweetest guy in the world. He's kind and caring, he totally looks out for his sister and he really sincerely cares about Lyla way before she starts her transformation. Any girl would kill to have Beck as a best friend. The only thing that irked me a bit about him was that his attraction towards Lyla only kicked in once she showed off her body. Other than that, he takes complete care of her during her foray into the party life. I loved every second of reading this book and it felt like it only took me seconds to read it. Cindi Madsen's never disappoints me and I urge all of you to go out and buy this book right now. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll have lots of happy "aww" moments and you'll be bouncing on your seat in anticipation.

I loved this friends to lovers romance! It's warm, it's funny, it's sweet, and sexy. The characters are great and there is major chemistry between nerdy Lyla and hockey player Beck. The writing is great too. Loved Anatomy of a Player also and can't wait to read the rest of the series. 4.5 stars.

Cindi Madsen is a new author to me and after reading Getting Lucky Number Seven I don’t understand why I haven’t found her before now, we’ll thats about to change I certainly will be checking out the rest of this series and other books by this very talented author. Lyla and Beck became best friends when they were paired up in the chemistry class, on paper a nerd and jock shouldn’t have the friendship these guys strike up after all he is the guy who has girls falling at his feet and she is the girl who covers her body by layering her clothes and draping herself in brightly coloured scarfs. When Layla has a disastrous blind date where her date calls her fugly she decides it’s time to change her life and that means a bucket list and who better to help her work through the list than her best friend Beck.... I loved this book ,I loved the strength and depth of Lyla and Beck, I loved that it’s a hockey romance but most of all I loved that this was a carefree sweet at times silly love story. A beautifully written romance with just the right amount of humour by a very talented author looking forward to reading more from her.

Getting Lucky Number Seven by Cindi Madsen is an entertaining contemporary romance. Ms. Madsen has delivered a well-written book. The characters are fantastic. Lyla is a nerd and best friends with Beck. Beck is a hockey jock with a background nobody knows about. Beck and Lyla's story is loaded with drama, humor and sizzle. I enjoyed reading this fun story and look forward to reading more from Cindi Madsen in the future. Getting Lucky Number Seven is book 1 of the Taking Shots Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.

Lyla Wilder is ready to shed her nerdy good girl image, and be the woman guys desire for once! She has never known what it is like for a guy to pick her out of the crowd or be chosen solely for her sexy looks, instead she has always been treated as the dorky third wheel no one wants. So she decides it's finally time to embrace all that college life has to offer, and be a little reckless for once in her life, so she puts her plan to become a sexy adventurous co-ed into action, now she just needs a little help in finding out what it is that men really desire in a woman...that's where her sexy best friend Beck Davenport comes into play. He's a sexy hockey player that is use to having woman fall at his feet so, surely he knows what will draw the attention of a man, and have them falling all over themselves to meet Lyla. With each change she makes she begins to attract the attention she has been desiring, and also the unexpected attention of a certain hockey player... This enticing little read captured my attention right from the start and had me devouring the pages as fast as I could swipe them!! I always enjoy a good friends to lovers story, and I have to say this one had the perfect amounts of everything, it was packed with steamy moments, laugh out loud moments, and tender moments that warmed my heart!! Some of my favorite reads have been centered around sexy, well-skilled hockey players, and I have to say after finishing this one it's safe to say Beck earned himself a spot amongst my favorites...he had me swooning the whole way through!! Loved every minute of this story!! If you like your fairy tales a little on the naughty side and equipped with a sexy hockey star calling the shots, then this might just be a perfect read for you!! Highly recommend!! I voluntarily read and reviewed a advanced copy of this title

"Getting Lucky Number Seven" is written by Cindi Madsen, and it is the first book in her Taking Shots series. It can be read as a stand-alone book. It features Lyla Wilder and Beck Davenport. Lyla is embarrassed after comments she heard about herself. She's had enough. She is studious and shy, and she wants to change that. She wants the full college experience, and she asks her best friend and hockey star Beck for help. Beck will drop anything he's doing to help Lyla. He agreed to help her with her list, but he never realized Lyla will do a drastic change! And he sure was thrown for a loop when he sees #7 of her list... have mind-blowing sex! Beck doesn't know how to handle his newfound feelings for Lyla. He's always had a soft spot for her, but things are different now. Guys are really starting to notice Lyla, and he's not exactly thrilled with it. Sure, he wants Lyla to be happy, but all he really wants is to protect her and be with her. And he still doesn't like the idea of someone other than him fulfilling #7 on her list. I enjoyed this story. It was a nice, quick read for me. Beck was always a player. He made no qualms about it. But there's just something about Lyla where he can be himself and truly be happy. Lyla started out as timid in the beginning of this story, but she quickly became her own person. Readers will see how they needed each other and supported one another. They truly made a great pair! Cindi Madsen wrote a great introduction to this series! I read the second book, "Anatomy of a Player," earlier this year, and that didn't disappoint either. If you're a fan of sports, romance, and New Adult, you will enjoy this series!

I want to thank Entangled Embrace for providing me with a copy of this book to read and give an honest review. Receiving this book for free has in no way altered my opinion or review. I've been hooked on hockey lately. And this book just helped push that along! Lyla, a girl who has decided there are things in college that she just must experience. So how does a nerd figure out those things: she makes a list. I love this concept and it's the second time I've read it in the last few months (the other being Cora Carmack's All Played Out). I can also totally relate to Lyla, because I myself am a huge list maker. There's just something about crossing stuff off that makes me feel accomplished! But in order to do it she gets help from her best male friend, Beck. Who just happens to be a hot hockey player, and a player. I love Lyla's tenacity in this book. She's determined to do what she sets out to do at all costs. She changes her look, starts going to parties and putting herself out there. But the one thing she didn't plan on was having her best friend actually seeing the list. And when he does, well, he just can't help himself but want to help her. This totally made me fall for Beck. Despite his player ways, you can see he truly cares for Lyla and doesn't want her to get hurt. Of course there's no way the two of them can accomplish the list without having to do stuff together. Or at least that's what Beck convinces Lyla of. But because they are friends, he tries to make it perfectly clear that it can't be anything more than that between them. And Lyla tries to convince herself of the same. Well, we know stuff like this never works out. But I won't tell you anymore because I certainly don't want to spoil how things go! Madsen has written a really cute coming of age story. Her characters are real and relatable. I had a very easy time getting into the story and even picturing myself in Lyla's shoes. And I love that Madsen based Lyla and Beck's relationship on friendship first. It gives such a great foundation to their budding romance. I wil say that I was a bit disappointed that Beck didn't really notice Lyla until she made herself over. But, at the same time, I've seen this story over and over again so it seems to be a common thread in these types of relationships. But it was nice to see Lyla take charge and change herself into something different (though her reason for it could have been for her rather than because of what others thought). Overall I really enjoyed this book. It was sweet and funny and just a little bit quirky. Readers of Cora Carmack or Kristen Callahan will be drawn right into this romantic story.

I absolutely loved this book and can not wait until the next one! The characters had my emotions going through the roof! The author did an incredible job showing how the best of friends make thee greatest relationships. It didn't go to fast and it wasn't dragged on. Perfect! Lyla is a someone almost every girl can relate to! With the insecure thoughts to over analyzing every detail of our lives! Taking chances and being the bold girl she wants to be is so entertaining! Beck is of course every girls fantasy, on top of that every girls dream come true! To the protective and heroic actions to the vulnerable annd sensitive macho man. I fell in love with the idea of him! A must read!

Lyla and Beck met in chemistry class in college and have become best friends. The nerd and the jock. But underneath they each are so much more than the stereo type. Lyla is tired of being pinned as the boring "fuggly" nerd. She decides to make a list of things she want to do to improve her life and personality. She wants to be bolder, less afraid to try new things like kiss stranger and sing kareoke. She recruits her friend Beck to help her cross off the list. In crossing off stuff on her list she exposes a beautiful, sexy body that Beck can't take his eyes off of. He convince her that he should be the one to try number seven with. They cross the line from friends to lovers. He slowly opens up even more to her. Beck is much more than a jock. He comes from a very wealthy family and he is expected to take over the multi million dollar pharmaceutical company since his parents died the previous year. He struggles with the knowledge that he would never play hockey which is his first love. This is a wonderful new adult story of friends to lovers trope rich with the right ingredients of quirky adorable heroine and brooding sexy hero. The emotional struggles these two went through adds to the richness of the story. Once again CM wrote an emotion packed story.
