I am a mother of two, a 9 year old and 11 year old. When my daughter, 9, came home with the book and said a book report was due after the book was read, I thought that I would read the book myself in order to help her with the book report. I took the book to work and read it when I wasn't too busy. By that night, I was finished. It was a teriffice book!! I would recommend all fourth graders read it. It tells about history as well as accomplishments that can be achieved if you believe in yourself.

Join Benjy as he encounter¿s Hugh, a ghost of a boy and Civil War casualty. When Benjy agrees to help Hugh find a precious family watch that will bring back his honor, he does not know how much it will affect his own personal view of life. A good pre-read for Civil War units as it is expressed through a Southern point of view.

Outstanding book for young readers. Mixes contemporary reality and the paramormal in a thoroughly natural fashion.See the author's afterword for a really spooky ending.

This was a nominee for Nebraska's Golden Sower Award one year, and I was responsible for the supplementary teaching material for this title. I loved it. A young modern boy visits his grandmother who lives near the New Market Battle Site, from the Civil War. He meets the ghost of a boy who was killed in that battle - a real life battle fought on the Confederate side mostly by very young cadets. The young ghost cannot rest until he retrieves something he lost on that long ago day - and he expects his new friend to help him.

One of my favorite books as a kid - read it in the fifth grade, and found it at the bookstore when I was in high school. Bought it and read it again. Still love it. If you like this, read "Ghost Soldier" by the same author. Good stuff!

I didn't think I would like it, but once I started I couldn't put it down. I love war and mystery books. I think they should write a sequel.

My 10 yr old son read and loved this story so much that we had to drive to New Market and see the battlefield where he died, while we were on vacation in Virginia this summer. We were told at the musuem that it is required reading for 4th grade in Virginia.

The Ghost Cadet is an excellent book for any age. The interesting fact about the story line, is that the book is based on FACT. If anyone is interested they will find it very worthwhile visiting the Virginia Military Institute web site (VMI). You will find some very interesting facts regarding the Ghost Cadet.

It is a great book, especially for a civil war bluff.I discovered it when I was looking for a civil war book for a book report. It was the greatest civil war book I have ever read and it is great for a book report.

I loved Ghost Cadet. It was an interesting story. I liked it when Benjy went to the museum and he meet Robert, when he told the sergant about the watch, and during the parade. I liked those part because he had time to find out about Hugh's family and heritage.
