This one is a good cozy mystery with a supernatural twist. It has an intersting plot an unique charactrs. I especially liked how it is an easy and fast read for when I want a little rest between more serious books. It is purely entertainment and gives the brain a little rest. Stephanie Clanahan

Ghost of a Potion by Heather Blake is another stellar installment of her Magic Potion Mystery series. In Ghost, we find witch and potion master Carly Bell Hartwell gearing up to hibernate through Halloween to avoid all of the spirits that are awoken and search for someone to help them. Instead of safely ensconcing herself in her house with zero ghosts, Carly ends up smack dab of another murder mystery with no less than FOUR ghosts needing her help. The main mystery of Ghost of a Potion revolves around Carly’s arch nemesis, Patricia Davis Jackson, who happens to also be the mother of her on again-off again boyfriend and resident cop, Dylan Jackson. Patricia is the prime suspect in the murder of Haywood Dodd during the costume ball. Unfortunately, Haywood’s ghost has latches onto Carly to help him solve his murder and, hopefully, save Dylan’s mother from a prison sentence. While trying to help find out who murdered Haywood, Carly also has to assist a few other interesting former residents of Hitching Post, Alabama find the answers to their questions so they can rest in peace. Ms. Blake seamlessly weaves the stories off all the characters together into one uproariously and satisfying tale in Ghost of a Potion. Between the laughs, there are plenty of heart-warming moments and even a surprise or two thrown in. As always, Ms. Blake has written an exceptional book and I look forward to reading many more of her Magic Potion Mystery series.

I love the books of Heather Blake, particularly the Wishcraft series. This is my first dive into the Magic Potion Mysteries, and I was enchanted. Carly is a fabulous character and I love her spunk. She and the other characters in the book are funny and endearing. Carly is a white witch who owns a potion shop in Hitching Post, Alabama (the wedding capitol of the South) and her family and friends are very supportive. Once a year (Halloween), she likes to hibernate for a few days because she is also an empath who can see ghosts and they want her to help them deal with their issues so that they can move on. She is at a party right before her hibernation begins and a murder occurs. The ghost tracks her down so that she can help figure out whodunnit. Fun and trilling, I loved the characters, plot, and setting.

A paranormal cozy mystery that is funny and entertaining. Interesting characters that are well developed and a plot that is funny, entertaining and intriguing. The plot is well thought out and has a variety of potential villains to keep you entertained and turning pages to unravel the mystery. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series.

I got this as an audio book. I give the audio 2 stars. Had I read a printed copy, my rating probably would have been a star higher. The "reader's" style is just wrong to me. She over-enunciates everything. No southerner I know does that. They/we gently slur the words. It's soft and comfortable. This is not. It's sharp and rather harsh. The story is good. Interesting characters and a good mystery. Wish I'd read it. I give the story 4 stars.

Ms. Blake does it again, when I pick up one of her books I know that I am in for a good read and she has never failed to deliver. The characters are diverse with their own unique personalities, I adore the humor, I had many laugh out loud moments. I love the Southern mannerisms, they draw you into the characters even more. In this book Carly is in hiding from Halloween ghosts, she had a bad past experience and doesn't want to get involved. She is sucked in of course when there is a murder. From there the story will take you on twists and turns between past and present stories until it is all woven together in the end and wraps you up like a warm blanket. If you haven't read the others in this series, I don't think that you will have a problem following. I will definitely continue on with this series, it is one that I know that I will be in for a great read each time.

This is truly one of the best cozy mysteries I have read in a long time. If you are looking for a mystery to keep you guessing until the very end, this is the book to read. Once again, Carly finds herself involved in helping a ghost find the person who murdered him so that he can cross over. After a previously bad experience with a ghost on Halloween, Carly is super reluctant to get involved but she soon finds she doesn't really have a choice. A few of Hitching Post, Alabama's elite have secrets that has given someone an opportunity to blackmail them. After one of the town's elite is murdered it is up to Carly to figure out what happened so that she can clear her boyfriend Dylan's Mother of the murder and clear her Ghost's good name of the blackmail and help him to cross over before it's too late and he has to wait another year. The ending to this mystery is truly wonderful. I can't wait for the next book to come out.

Between Halloween and All-Soul's Day (November 2), spirits would rise from their graves and for those who have not yet crossed over, would seek out someone who could help them with this. Because of Carly's special talent with ghosts, she prefers to spend these few days in isolation, away from ghostly presences. However, this year her mother has asked her to attend the masquerade ball to be held at the Ezekiel Mansion. Since Carly's father has applied to be a member of the Harpies, an exclusive and influential group of five townspeople who plan fund-raisers and other charitable events, her mama felt Carly's presence would be an asset for his membership consideration. Carly certainly didn't expect to have a front row seat to murder, and like it or not, finds herself saddled with a ghost that needs her help to cross over. An additional incentive to finding the murderer is to help her almost-mother-in-law, Patricia, who has become the prime suspect. Patricia has always treated Carly like dirt, apparently feeling she was not good enough for her precious son, Dylan, and this may be a way for her to help their relationship improve. She almost lost Dylan once over this...she doesn't want to lose him again. But will her questions put her in danger? And how should she deal with the other ghosts that have attached themselves to her? I love this series and the main characters, as well as the relationships between them, including Carly and her cousin, Delia. I loved the twist at the end...no spoilers. I also enjoyed the various animal characters, especially Louella. I look forward to the next book in this series.

Ghost of a Potion is the 3rd book in the Magic Potion Mystery series and it's the best one yet!! It's Halloween in Hitching Post and Carly Bell Hartwell's plan to hide out for the next three days to avoid all ghosts is dashed when a friend is murdered at a masquerade ball to celebrate the opening of the newly renovated Ezekiel Mansion. To make matters worse, Carly's arch enemy (and the mother of the love of her life) is found standing over the body with the murder weapon in her hand. When the ghost of the victim, Haywood Dodd, asks for Carly's help in solving his murder so that he can cross over, she starts to investigate, and she ends up with two more ghosts that need her help. This book is fast-paced, by turns laugh-out-loud funny and deadly serious, and full of twists and turns. I figured out "who done it' just as Carly did, which is perfect for my taste. I don't like to know too soon. One of the main things I look for in a series is how the characters grow and change over time. This is just the 3rd book but the characters are already really coming in to their own and I can't wait to see where they go from here!

Once again, Heather Blake has created an enchanting story for her Potions series. It is Halloween and Carly Bell Hartwell plans on hiding out for the next few days from the ghosts roaming around the town of Hitching Post, AL. Carly is an empath who can see ghosts who are looking for help to resolve issues so that they can move on. In spite of her hibernation plans, she ends up getting involved in solving a murder when her boyfriend's mother is the main suspect. This book has southern charm, great secondary characters, and kept me guessing until the end as to who was the real killer. Heather Blake is a great storyteller and I enjoy all of her books. I highly recommend all of her series, including the books she writes under Heather Webber.

It's Halloween in Hitching Post, Alabama Ghost of a Potion by Heather Blake The Third Magic Potion Mystery It's Halloween in Hitching Post, Alabama and Carly Bell Hartwell is getting ready to batten down the hatches. However, her plans of hibernating during the ghostpocalypse collapse when she makes eye contact with a newly departed murder victim. Carly knew things could go bad at the masquerade ball to celebrate the restoration of the Ezekiel Mansion, after all Dylan's mother, Patricia, AKA The Face of Evil, was one of the hostesses. What was unexpected was the murder of Haywood Dodd during the festivities. When Carly unwittingly made eye contact with his ghost she knew she had no choice but to solve his murder to help him cross over. What she didn't expect were the other ghosts she would meet along the way and the many secrets she'd uncover. Ghost of a Potion is a book you don't want to put down. Fast paced fun with eccentric characters who manage to remain completely believable and a well plotted mystery make for a fantastic read. Blake cleverly uses a countdown to fuel our adrenaline and rush to solve the murder- and finish the book. We only have three days to help the ghosts before they're trapped for another year. This pressure induced time frame adds drama and a sense of urgency to the finely crafted mysteries. Yes, mysteries. We get multiple mysteries which evolve with several viable suspects and enough red herrings to keep us jumping. As with the other books in the Magical Potions Mystery series, Ghost of a Potion is also flat our fun to read! Funny characters, witty dialogue, and amusing situations abound. Southern charm and eccentricities are on full display. Yet an honesty and deep seated love is also present. As wild and wacky as things get Blake manages to make it real and make us care. FTC Disclosure – The publisher sent me a copy of this book in the hopes I would review it.

Southern charm, hospitality, and humor blend well with mystery, magic and mayhem in author Heather Blake’s latest release, GHOST OF A POTION. The comforting down-home appeal quickly draws you in to a world where the paranormal seems natural. The author’s easy writing style envelopes you as it transports you to Hitching Post, Alabama, just as the residents are set to celebrate Halloween. Potion shop owner Carly Bell Hartwell is not all that fond of Halloween seeing how that’s the busy time for ghosts wanting to get her help to pass through to the other side. A costume ball, organized by her boyfriend Dylan’s mother, is the last place she wants to be as Halloween approaches. But she agrees to go just to please Dylan despite the fact his mother seems to hate her. When Dylan’s mother is found standing over a dead body, holding the murder weapon, Carly see an opportunity the forge a truce with her if she can clear her name. Carly has her hands full trying to uncover the real killer, while dealing with so many ghosts. Carly soon learns secrets take on a life of their own if kept too long. Blake’s characters are quirky, likable and well-developed. The bantering between Carly and her parents is priceless. The dialogue flows smoothly and holds you spellbound. The twists and turns in the story will keep you in suspense until the very end. The author’s vivid descriptions and eye for detail paints a beautiful Southern town. The right mix of humor and family loyalty adds depth to this charming story while lightening the cozy murder mystery. GHOST OF A POTION is the third installment in the Magic Potion Mystery series, but can be read as a standalone. Featuring characters you wish were your neighbors, this enchanting story will entertain you from the first line until the last. Magic, potions and ghosts are a delight when Carly Bell Hartwell is involved. FTC Full Disclosure – A copy of this book was sent to me by the publisher in hopes I would review it. However, receiving the complimentary copy did not influence my review. The thoughts are completely my own and given honestly and freely.

Another Hit for Heather Blake. I will start by saying that I am a fan of Heather Blake and any new release automatically goes on my to be read pile. This series is no exception. Ghost of a Potion is the third book in the Magic Potion Mysteries and Ms. Blake has written a charming addition to the series. By now, the cast of characters are like old friends so it is always nice to stop in for a visit. In the Magic Potion Mysteries, the main character Carly Bell Hartwell, is a white witch and empath, who runs her families potion shop in a small town in Alabama. Although this installment is set during Halloween, this series is welcome entertainment anytime of the year. The author does a wonderful job creating a cast of witty, fun characters that will enchant you from the start. She writes this story will humor and emotion that will make you laugh out loud and become more attached to the characters. Add to that a plot filled with mystery and some mayhem; throw in witches, ghost, and Carly's crazy family and you have the perfect blend for a wonderful story. Ms. Blake never disappoints and I never hesitate to pick up the latest copy of one of her books. Reading a story written by this author is like going home and catching up with old friends. I have to say this was a great visit and I can't wait for the next installment. Do your self a favor, if you haven't tried a book by this author pick up a book in one of her series and you will become a fan. If you are already a fan like me----definitely put this on your to be read pile. You won't be disappointed. I would rate this book 4.5 stars. Author Heather Blake has penned another enchanting installment of the Magic Potion Mystery series. Rather you’re a returning fan or new to this series, you are going to be captivated. I’m not a big fan on stories with witches, but with more and more coming out in the para-cozy genre, I have been finding series that I enjoy. Reading GHOST OF A POTION, I found myself absorbed in the story. It was a perfect blending of murder mystery, humor, witches and ghosts. The fact that the story is set during Halloween made it that much more entertaining. So wonderful is the author’s writing, as I read, I could hear the characters rich Alabama accents. I could see the small town of Hitching Post and felt I was walking along its streets. I was so absorbed in the story, that before I knew it, I had reached its exciting conclusion. Add this magical mystery to your TBR. You’re going to be happy you did!
