Overview

Ghost Ship: A Kurt Austin Adventure (NUMA Files Series) by Clive Cussler, Graham Brown

The dazzling new novel in the #1 New York Times-bestselling series from Clive Cussler, the grand master of adventure.

When Kurt Austin is injured attempting to rescue the passengers and crew from a sinking yacht, he wakes with fragmented and conflicted memories. Did he see an old friend and her children drown, or was the yacht abandoned when he came aboard? For reasons he cannot explain, Kurt doesn’t trust either version of his recollection.

Determined to know the truth, he begins to search for answers, and soon finds himself descending into a shadowy world of state-sponsored cybercrime, and uncovering a pattern of vanishing scientists, suspicious accidents, and a web of human trafficking. With the help of Joe Zavala, he takes on the sinister organization at the heart of this web, facing off with them in locations ranging from Monaco to North Korea to the rugged coasts of Madagascar. But where he will ultimately end up—even he could not begin to guess.

Definitely a return to the Clive Cussler books of yesteryear. Most releases for the past couple years have been a little cookbook, although still enjoyable to read. This book is a definite improvement. It is a page turner from start to finish. Great characters, with some of our old favorites still having a part in the story. I highly recommend this book.

I purchased this book because I'm traveling to Madagascar this summer, and was curious to read about modern-day intrigue in this fascinating part of the world. I'd never read a Clive Cussler novel before, and was unfamiliar with the "Kurt Austin series." Nevertheless, it had my attention from the first chapter; and even though I was reading it on my Nook (the first novel ever purchased and read electronically), I found myself thoroughly absorbed in the story. Kurt Austin is a MacGyver-type hero, and the characters reminded me of those in a Stieg Larsson novel. I accepted them at face value. Although I am a methodical reader, I read the book quickly and effortlessly. Overall, it was a satisfying experience. The unique qualities of Madagascar served to unravel an important element of the mystery, and I found that particularly exhilarating.

Clive Cussler is one of the best authors and I have read a majority of his books and this book is, also, excellent. His development of history at the beginning is strong and supported throughout the text.
