Ghosts of Winters Past by Christy Graham Parker

Five years ago, Lord Henry left Lady Emmaline alone to face society's scorn after the two were found in a compromising position. Now Henry has returned to London as the Duke of Salle, determined to win back the woman he never forgot.

Lady Emmaline believes herself to be happy as a resigned spinster. Though her days are no longer filled with callers and balls, she has found her place in society and has no interest in romance. Her vow to withstand Henry's renewed advances slowly crumbles, however, under his persistent and unwavering charm.

Finally, they believe, the ghosts of their past have been banished. That is until a new scandal threatens to separate them. This time, forever.

Reviewed by Robin Book provided by the publisher for review Review originally posted at Romancing the Book What would you do if for some reason the man you were in love with up and left; changing your life completely? Henry disappeared from Emma’s life over five years ago. Now he is back and wanting to pick up where they left off. I know in these circumstances I would be a little skeptical. After all why now does he want me back? Wasn’t I good enough five years ago? I know there are times when things happen that leave us questioning everything. I have learned that it is a hard thing trying to develop characters when writing a short story or novella. However I think that Ms. Parker did a rather nice job in bringing Emma and Henry to life. They were likable to say the least. Even some of the lesser characters you could identify with. The story overall was promising. I would have liked it to be just a bit longer so that some questions I had while reading this story could have been dealt with. Wishing for a longer story for Emma and Henry isn’t that bad is it? I wanted more depth to the story and characters. I also didn’t think the title fit the story and found it a little confusing.

I'm glad it was free. Otherwise I wouldn't have read it. 14+JS.

This is a very short story - 58 pages. As can be expexted, the story moved along quickly. There wasn't enough time to get into the backstory of the characters. The writing was not interesting enough to generate interest in other works by this author

Although this is a short story, the characters were well developed and the author did a great job of creating chemistry between them. Emmaline was a fun character that was strong but also had her flaws. Henry had made mistakes and was now grown up to stand up and make his own decisions. Then they are hit with another scandal... can they survive this one too.
