Overview

Giddy-Up-Go [Nashville]

Starday and its budget subsidiary, Nashville, both released albums by Red Sovine with the title Giddy-Up-Go in 1966, but they are completely different records. The one bearing the Nashville imprint does not contain the number one hit to which the title refers, but instead offers ten songs from only a handful of songwriters. Roger Miller's "Invitation to the Blues" is one of the few well-known songs, while three from the pen of George Jones dominate the second side. The instrumental "Trucker's Ramble" seems like a weak attempt to exploit the trucking theme of the song "Giddy-Up-Go," since there are no other trucking songs or recitations in the bunch. These recordings are unlike Sovine's hits, but aren't very different from the music he made for Decca in the '50s.
