Overview

The Gift (Witch and Wizard Series #2) by James Patterson, Ned Rust

Ever since Whit and Wisty Allgood were cruelly torn from their home and family in the middle of the night, the soldiers of a brutal totalitarian government have relentlessly tried to capture and execute them for "collusion, conspiracy, and experimentation with the dark and foul arts." But this increasingly skilled witch and wizard have boldly spearheaded the fight against the wicked regime of the New Order and its systematic destruction of music, art, books, and imagination. Now the villainous leader of the New Order is just a breath away from the ability to control the forces of nature and to manipulate his citizens on the most profound level imaginable—through their minds. There is only one more thing he needs to triumph in his evil quest: the Gifts of Whit and Wisty Allgood. And he will stop at nothing to seize them.

In this second installment of James Patterson's epic Witch & Wizard series, Whit and Wisty's heart-pounding adventures through the Overworld and Shadowland lead to a jaw-dropping climax and conclusion.

I am about 3/4 through this book and cannot put it down! It is great. A different type of book for James Patterson but has been a page turner just the same. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading about the supernatural.

I was able to read the first couple of chapters and I can't wait to finish the book. I know it will be an all nighter for me. James Patterson is a wonderful writer that keeps you involved with his characters. You feel their emotions and are a part of their world. Patterson makes reading enjoyable even for reluctant readers. This series, along with the Maximum Ride series, has helped get many teenagers back or start, into reading. Thanks James for helping install the love of reading back into our children.

I was wonderfully surprised at this entire series. A great read for teenage readers, I think it is a bit beyond my 8yr old. But well written characters and fast moving story line make it ideal for the more mature youngster and teens alike.

The second book in this trilogy is smart, romantic, action-packed, and magical. You get to see more of Whit's love life and how he is in love with 2 girls: one that he's loved for months that has gone to the shadow land and one who has caught his attention and can't get out of his head. Wisty starts to get better at magic and ends up getting a hair cut. With action, violence, romance, and magic, this is a great second book that has an unexpected twist to the end.

Patterson's foray into magical writing is a disappointing one in comparison to his other works. The story line falls drastically short and at parts he fails to remain on the same train of thought. His chapters jump around as much as his characters do. His word play on things we commonly are aware of today is cheesy such as, Stockwood (Woodstock)and Dustin Beeper (Justin Beiber). For a professional writer with so many other books of quality this book was a let down. Don't get me wrong, it's readable but if you notice sloppy writing easily you will find yourself very distracted!

Mkk i agree with "Anonymous", if the book isn't out yet, you cant say it was like the first one!! I honestly cant wait for this book, James Patterson is an amazing plot writer and always has the best and brightest characters. This book is sure to be amazing.

The book, the series, the author, all amazing! James Patterson has done it again, this time, for younger readers aged probably in between 10-14. I would definetly reccomend this book. Great job, James!!!!!

Honestly, I was expecting a lot more out of this book. I loved the first one, but this one just didn't live up to my expectations. It was mostly the story development that I didn't like though, do here's to hoping the third book is more like the first!
