I Would Not Love You
I would not love you
With requisite
To build fences of rules
Around a heart so exquisite
It's not my place to let
You be who you are or meant to be,
But simply to enjoy the beauty unfolding before me.
I would not love you
Despite flaws and imperfections
For to do so
Would be a great deception
To blind myself to that
Which makes you unique
Is not a loss
Of which I seek.
I would not love you
With hope to gain
Love is a gift to be given freely
And without claim
Not to be measured
In terms of cost
For no time with you would ever be wasted
And no love given could ever be lost.
