About the Author

HASSAN A. TETTEH is an Assistant Professor of surgery at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, Maryland. He is a thoracic surgeon and director of thoracic transplant procurement and research for Inova Health System. His clinical work includes cardiovascular disease management, treatment of heart failure, and heart and lung transplantation.

Dr. Tetteh served as ship surgeon and director of surgical services for the USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70) battle group in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2005. In 2011, he deployed as a trauma surgeon to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

He is founder and principal of Tetteh Consulting Group, and is the author or subject of numerous articles in publications that include Military Medicine, The Journal for Surgical Research, The Journal of Heart and Lung Transplantation, Annals of Thoracic Surgery, Military Officer Magazine, and Savoy Magazine.

Dr. Tetteh was awarded the Alley Sheridan Award by the Thoracic Surgery Foundation for Research and Education and was named a TEDMED Front Line Scholar. He’s an alumnus of the Harvard Medical School Writers’ Workshop, and lives near Washington, D.C. with his wife, son, and daughter.
