"I finished Ginger's Heart last night, and I am completely and utterly in love." –Mia Sheridan, NY Times bestselling author

From New York Times bestselling author Katy Regnery, a modern-day fairytale about the many faces of love.

Once upon a time there were two cousins:

one dark like midnight,
one a protector,
one a predator,

one a Wolf…
both owning equal,
but different,
parts of a little girl's heart.

In this contemporary love story, loosely inspired by "Little Red Riding Hood," the woodsman and the wolf are cousins, and Little Red is the girl with whom they both fall in love.

Beautiful Ginger McHuid, daughter of Kentucky's premiere horse breeder, grows up on her family farm, best friends with Cain Wolfram, the son of her father's Stallion Manager, and Cain's cousin, Josiah Woodman, son of a local banker. Throughout their happy childhood, the three are inseparable friends, but as they mature into adults, complicated feelings threaten to destroy their long history of friendship and love.

I was caught off guard by the depth of the story. I was expecting something a little fluffier since it was based on a fairy tale, and this story blew me away. The author really managed to use genuine Southern languages and customs without making the characters into cartoons. As the wife of a volunteer firefighter, I also really appreciated how she nailed all those the realities of odd the job and customs.

Being a fan of Katy Regenery's other series, i decided to give this one a try. WOW! Color me impressed! The emotional twists and turns had me begging to see what would come next. I felt so drawn into each character and wanted each to get their happy ending, but didnt know how that was going to be possible. She wove such an intricate web of feelings that were pulled out of me, i had to stay up until 4 am to see how it would end. I definitely recommend this!

Guest Reviewed by Jennifer and posted at Under The Covers Book Blog Ginger’s Heart is book three in a series of standalone novels in Katy Regnery’s A Modern Fairytale series. Each is loosely based on a fairytale, with Ginger’s Heart using “Little Red Riding Hood” as its inspiration. If you’ve read the blurb, it’s quite clear that the plot revolves around Ginger McHuid, daughter of a well to do horse breeder in Kentucky, and her two loves, Cain Wolfram and Josiah Woodman. Josiah and Cain are first cousins by twin women, but represent two halves of a coin, one light and one dark. Josiah is the golden boy: brave, honorable, honest, and faithful. Cain is the bay boy: dark-haired, troubled, and womanizing. Both cousins love each other deeply and it’s clear from the time Ginger is a young teen that she’s captured their hearts as well. Ginger’s Heart follows their relationships into adulthood, where Ginger must finally choose whom she must build her forever with. The path is fraught with heartache that threatens to destroy the love and friendship that has bound these three together since they can remember. I truly had no idea what I was getting into when I began Ginger’s Heart. I hadn’t read much other than the blurb, and by that description, I had assumed I was walking into a ménage story. That couldn’t be farther from the truth, and while I have no issue with a good ménage, I was thrilled that this particular story didn’t head in that direction. For readers that abhor cheating in their romances, you’ll be happy to hear that there’s none of that either. Katy Regnery is a phenomenal, lyrical writer. She has a beautiful, flowing prose that’s effortless and lends itself well to genuine emotion. Josiah’s character could have been cookie-cutter, the stereotypical golden boy, but he’s just the opposite, despite being as pure and noble as one could imagine. His love for Ginger is unfailing, strengthening over the years. He aims to give Ginger everything he has with every fiber of his being. Cain might appear on the outside to care about no one but himself and his conquests, but we get to learn his true heart through the author’s use of changing perspectives by chapter. I really enjoyed seeing some of the same scenes played out in each of their heads. I was as confused and torn as Ginger was, having to choose between two men that seem to offer such different futures or maybe no future at all. This is a long novel by romance standards, and while it seemed a bit daunting at the onset, it was well worth the time invested. It had me genuinely sobbing in parts, shocked in disbelief in others. Though you know this is a novel with a solid monogamous HEA and might predict where it will end, I guarantee you will never predict how you get there. Prepare to have your heart ripped out and bleeding for these characters whom you’ll come to love. The secondary characters are memorable as well, from Ginger’s grandmother to Cain’s father, Klaus. I need to go back and read the first book in this series and will be waiting patiently for the next. Katy Regnery has a unique and captivating voice in contemporary romance that is easy to love.

I really don't know about this one. I loved the first book In this series, the second was okay, but this one.....? For starters you end up reading the same scene through each of the three main characters eyes...nothing new just a rewrite of the same scene, which I found myself skimming over...not sure what the point was but I must say it was very tiring. But thankfully that stopped and the story started moving on. It was slow and never really picked up. I just kept waiting to be captivated by the "fairytale" theme but unfortunately it never happened. The only comparison to the red-riding hood tale was the characters names and that there was a grandmother in the background. Basically, for me the story was unoriginal and very predictable. I never felt invested in the characters or their story. While this one wasn't really for me, but for fans of the series...I see many loved I say give it a try and make your own decision.

As always, another wonderfully book, which had me crying and anticipating the next one. I didn't think think I could love a book as much as "Never let me Go", but I am again proven wrong. I look forward to the next book!

Another 5 star romance from author Katy Regnery!! Ginger’s Heart is the emotional love story of 3 friends. Cain, Josiah and Ginger’s friendship began when they were small children and it grew stronger over the years. What started as a big brothers little sister relationship transformed to a deeper love for each other. Ginger has always loved both men but in different ways. One man she loves as a best friend and confidant. While the other is loved with a passionate, soulmate connection. Unbeknownst to Ginger the cousins Cain and Josiah make a pact to allow only one of the men to love her. But will it be the right man for Ginger’s heart? You have to read this to find out! What did I love about this book? The Story Ginger’s Heart is a modern retelling of Little Red Riding Hood but the author added her signature style to make this story her own. There are the characters inspired from the classic – Ginger is Red Riding Hood, Cain is the big bad wolf in the form of the local bad boy, Josiah is the hunter who has been always there to take care of Ginger, and finally there is Gran who loves and guides Ginger through difficult times. Ginger’s Heart also takes inspiration from one of the classics themes of not all is what it appears to be. With this the author created twists to the story to make it her own. This was a creative and heart wrenching story. But this had me laughing, crying and swooning for these characters. The Characters I loved all of the main characters! Cain and Josiah had different qualities that I loved so it was hard for me to decide who was best for Ginger, but in the end I was happy with her choice. Ginger is a strong young woman but everyone still treats her as a fragile child. But through her heartache it was good to see her take control of her life. The story alternates from the trio’s point of view which gives readers insight to each character. As a result I formed a bond with all three characters. And finally I fell in love with sweet Gran and her words of wisdom. The relationship between Ginger and Gran was touching and had me in tears. The Writing Author Katy Regnery amazes me with every book. Her writing is flawless. But what I love the most is that she is not afraid to take chances and creates stories with different levels of intensity. She is one of my favorite authors. I always know that I will enjoy a story with likeable characters and steamy romance. “Like no one had ever come before. Like no one could ever come after. And as his heart thundered painfully behind his ribs, he knew- for the very first time after years of hunting-what it felt like to surrender.” What didn’t I like about this book? Absolutely nothing! I loved the story, pace and characters. Ginger’s Heart is a great story. I highly recommend this book to all romance fans and I can’t wait to read the next books in this A Modern Fairtytale series.

First I want to say I was leery about reading it at first cause it's not my type of book but wow was I amazed. Ginger, Cain and Woodman were perfect and imperfect characters and I loved the story so much. I don't think a book has ever made me so happy yet gutted me so badly. I feel like I have a wonderful yet terrifying book hangover and I don't know what to do with myself now except read the book all over again but I don't think I can handle those emotions again so soon. An absolutely excellent read and story!! A+++++++

Favorite Quotes: “‘It’s okay,’ she said gently, and just like that, two little words, that were common, everyday, ordinary words became his favorite because she wasn’t pushing him for something he couldn’t give, and accepting what he could.” “My heart belongs to you. If you’re ever ready to give me yours, well, you come find me darlin’. I’ll be waitin’.” “She wanted him to slay dragons for her, but instead he became friends with the dragons and made excuses for their fire-breathing ways.” “I never had to wait… until you. And for you, darlin’, I’d wait until I ran out of days. And when I ran out of days, I’d wait for you in heaven. And when you got there, through every eternity, I’d wait for you and your lion’s heart to give me another chance, to choose me again.” “… this is a moment that matters, really matters: a moment when life has served up a platter of cold awful, and the man who loves you takes a seat beside you at the table to eat his share of your sorrow.” My Review: Katy Regnery has magic; there can be no other explanation. She consistently creates cleverly contrived stories with interesting and often fun ancillary details sprinkled and sometimes hidden throughout her well-crafted and highly emotive works. Ginger’s Heart maintained an aura of intense angst, which thrummed through each chapter, squeezing my heart, stinging my eyes, compressing my chest, and leading to several rather ugly cries. I was a complete mess and totally wrecked as Ginger read her grandmother’s last letter. The three main characters held a deeply rooted connection from childhood - via blood and personal history - which had endured over time despite a myriad of grievances, missed opportunities, misplaced devotion, grief, loss, arguments, parental disapproval, jealousy, wanderlust, and decades of emotional baggage. I suffered from split loyalties and could not settle on whom to root for. One choice appeared safe and secure yet bland; while the other held unfettered fun, passion, adventure, and recklessness. The plot was interesting and creative, and Ms. Regnery’s writing was devastatingly poignant, deeply moving, and incredibly insightful and observant. I was fully engaged and engrossed from the beginning paged to the oh so satisfying end, despite my typical aversion to angst. Although Ginger’s Heart was well worth my anguish, I will admit to planning to accommodate my bruised and battered heart by scouring my TBR for much lighter fare for my next read.

Love, Longing, Loss, Pain, Anger, Hope, Regret, Fear, Kindness, Compassion, Hate, Envy, Jealousy, and Forgiveness. Katy Regnery works through all of these in her newest book, Ginger's Heart, with the skill of a master. Hang on tight as she takes you through the relationships between child and parent, grandchild and grandparent, siblings, cousins, friends, in-laws, and of course men and women. You are about to get a crash course in how all of these emotions can affect and be affected by such relationships in both the good, the bad and the ugly ways. I don't know if there are many in this world that are worthy of passing judgement on the beauty and hope Miss Regnery brings to so many different types of heartache, but I know I'm not one of them. The best I can hope to do is to communicate to other readers the profound emotional impact this work of art had on my psyche. In that effort, I will answer a few questions: Did this book wring me out? YES! Did this book leave me aching? YES! If I had it to do all over again, would I? Heck Ya! The wringing out was very cathartic and by the end, the ache was oh, so good. As the third installment of her ever popular Modern Fairytale Series, Ginger's Heart does not disappoint.

5 Enchanting Stars This is a story of two little cousins who adored a chubby fingered little girl; one cautious and one spirited and a little girl who worshiped them both. This is a story of two rambunctious boys who loved a little starry eyed girl; one hero and one troublemaker and the lionhearted gal who adored them both. This is a story of two teenage boys and the little girl who loved them both; one golden boy and one wild child and the stubborn girl that loved them both. This is a story of two young men and the young woman who loved them equally but differently; one man with a plan and one wanderer and the lonely young women missing them both. This is a story of two heroes and the heroine torn between two halves of her heart; two men in love and the woman who owns both of their hearts. This is a story of an epic love that will leave you with your heart broken, shattered, mended, and joyous. The number of tears, of innocent love, teen heart break, adult devastation, and the beautifully euphoric happily every after, are too many to count but oh so worth every single one shed. This is a story that will have you sobbing uncontrollably, heaving and with grief and gratitude, breathless from love and loss. This is a masterpiece by Katy Regnery, who never fails to deliver every emotion known to man and woman kind. She never leaves you without a happily ever after, even if it is not the one you thought you wanted..... it is perfect nevertheless. Perfect in every possible way.

From the moment I read the synopsis of Ginger’s Heart, I must admit I had a bit of fear that this story was going to be difficult for me. I absolutely do not do love triangles and anticipating this story was going to be about a woman and two cousins fighting for her affections, I was a bit panicked that it wasn’t going to work for me. But as I am an avid Katy Regnery fan/stalker, there was absolutely no chance I was going to miss out on one of her stories. Honestly I should have known better than to have even an inkling of doubt because I completely fell in love with Ginger, Cain and Woodman and this fantastic story. I’m certain everyone has read a book where the characters absolutely captivated and took control of their mind, heart and soul. Well, from the moment I opened Ginger’s Heart I was completely mesmerized and drawn into the lives of Ginger, Cain and Woodman. I just couldn’t get them out of my head even when I wasn’t reading. I continued to replay the scenes between them in my mind over and over like I was watching a movie. I worried a bit about how I was going to be able to include a description of this story in my review without spoiling the plot so I’ve decided to rely on Katy’s synopsis for that. What I do want to say is that there is such a deep and resolute connection between these three hearts even now as I think back to them all, I have a burning of tears in my eyes and a lump in my throat. Ginger, Cain and Woodman took ahold my heart from the turning of the first page and although I have finished reading their story, they continue even now to hold on to it. Ginger’s Heart had intensely heartbreaking moments when all I wanted to do was sit and cry. But when I was finally able to return to the story, I found that Katy began to slowly repair my heart finally returning it to me in one piece full of contentment, emotion and love for an unbelievably beautiful love story. Katy Regnery is positively, hands down, one of the most gifted and talented story tellers I have ever had the pleasure of reading. She creates all of her characters with such grace and love and has the unwavering ability to completely transport her readers to another world. Katy takes you through the gamut of emotions making you laugh out loud, cry with tears of joy as well as sorrow literally rolling down your cheeks and even dislike making you want to scream at the book. But she also has the amazing ability to make you swoon and fall so hard and so deeply in love with her characters that they become a part of your soul and a part of your life. Ginger’s Heart is a powerful love story of hearts bound together by time and now shares the number one place on my list of favorite stories of all time by Katy Regnery who is definitely at the top of my list of favorite authors as well. Standing ovation to you Ms. Regnery. Ginger’s Heart is beautifully written and is an absolutely amazing story.

As a long time and devoted fan of this author’s books, Ginger’s Heart was my most anticipated read for 2016 for a year prior to release. When she released the cover and blurb for this book, I was itching to get my hands on it and she far and away exceeded all of my expectations! With this book, Katy will break your heart and put it back together again…and again…and again….much like the main characters did to each other throughout this book. “You can have this heart to break….if there’s even the smallest chance you might want it someday. Because here is what I know: even if you can’t ever give me yours, mine already belongs to you.” As I’ve come to expect wit this author, she is not only an amazing storyteller, but her writing is in a class of its own. Once again, the writing in this book is gorgeous perfection! “…knowing with profound certainty that his life was changed forever: baptized in love, reborn in devotion, his heart bound to hers until death.” This EPIC love story spans more than 2 decades with an unforgettable cast of characters and rich details that make it IMPOSSIBLE to not feel like you’re completely immersed as a part of this story. I felt their joy and their heartbreak, which is EXACTLY what I yearn for in a great book! It was romantic, yes, absolutely, but it was also heartbreaking, intense, and gut-wrenching. It was an emotional roller-coaster that I will ride over and over again with this author. Without a doubt, one of my top 3 reads for 2016 (which is saying something since I read 3-4 books per week). I loved every word on every page, and these characters will forever take up space in my mind and my heart.

4.5 Stars Beautiful story with best friends, family, loyalty and tragedy. This is a story about falling in love. It's about knowing the difference between "loving" someone and being "in love" with them. This is the story of Cain, Ginger and Josiah. The bad boy, the princess and the perfect boy. You might think you can guess who gets the princess in the end but it's the lifelong journey to get there that's the real adventure. My emotions were all over the place reading this story. The relationship between these three childhood friends was so fun to watch, twist and turn and grow. Ginger was lucky to have two knights in shining armor to watch out for her but I didn't envy her the choices she had to make. The only problem I had was there was a lot of story line repeat. The story would unfold in the eyes of one character, only to be retold right after by another character. Other than that story was perfect! Received a copy in exchange for an honest review. I was not compensated for my review. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinion expressed is my own.

Katy Regnery has created another story that screams "READ ME!" at the top of it's lungs. I received an ARC of Ginger's Heart in exchange for an honest review. Going in I was not sure about it which is strange for me because I love this author so much but I was quite leery. There is a heavy darkness to this read that I have not felt in previous reads from this series including Never Let You Go which teetered on that edge. Ginger's Heart brings a spotlight to painful, hard to face aspects of the human psyche but it also shows the power of love. Katy Regnery knows how to purge emotions that are turbulant, twisted but inspiring. In Ginger's Heart, the story, the characters speak to the heart. Finished it in 2 1/2 hours.
