Most of the 15 essays were presented at an international conference held in Athens, Greece in August 1996, called to evaluate the deepening and widening of the integration process both between the existing trading blocs such as the North American Free Trade Agreement and the European Union and elsewhere. They analyze economic, political, and legal issues facing countries engaged in various degrees of integration. Among them are contributions from Mexico and central and eastern Europe. A companion volume, European Union at the Crossroad completes the two-volume series. Annotation c. by Book News, Inc., Portland, Or.
