God Knows No Heroes

Multiple 5-Star Reviews on Reader's Favorite!

Joshua Ryan is a disgraced lawyer in desperate need of redemption, and one case could turn everything around.

When Rabbi Carl Rubin's wife is found strangled, the shockwaves reach far beyond the quiet boundaries of Summit County. Rabbi Rubin, a respected spiritual leader with deep connections to Israeli politics, quickly becomes the prime suspect. Desperate to clear his name, he turns to Ryan, whose own salvation hinges on winning the case.

From the mountains of Summit County to the ancient streets of Jerusalem and the boulevards of Paris, Ryan and his team are pursued not only by the legal system but by a crooked prosecutor's relentless detectives. With everything on the line, the trial culminates in a stunning forensic twist that sends shockwaves through the courtroom. But as the dust settles, Ryan and the rabbi must ask themselves—was it the redemption they were truly seeking?

"This is a terrific, fast-paced read about the dark side of law enforcement and the judiciary. Norman Shabel has a masterful command of the interaction of cops, judges and defense lawyers and he as presented that to us with an added dose of international intrigue in his compelling debut novel. I couldn't put it down." —Judge Napolitano

"This tense legal thriller, with an added dose of international intrigue, will keep you fully engaged from the first page to the very last word"...Written Word Media

About the Author

Hi, I'm Norman Shabel, a Brooklyn-born, successful New Jersey class-action attorney turned author. I've been driven to write ever since I can remember and by the time I was in my twenties I had already written several novels that ended up stuffed in drawers as I launched my legal career, married and had a family.

To date I have written 8 novels and 7 plays, some written in long-hand, hunched over my desk while waiting for a jury verdict to come in and all dealing with some sort of crime, be it murder, corporate greed, politics, war, the Holocaust, or relatable family dynamics.  They are fast-paced reads about the dark side of law enforcement and the judiciary and the ups and downs of the legal system.

Courts are inherently dramatic places, and I saw that connection between law and storytelling before I even realized it. Lawyers need to be good storytellers to engage juries in the "plot" of a case. You need to hold the interest of a jury if you're going to win them over, much like the plot of a novel or the arc of a play.

Writing gives my life meaning, I'm a very fortunate man."

I have been married to my wife, Arleen for over 60 years. Together we have lived our dream of traveling the world and now reside much of the year in sunny South Florida.

If you would like to learn more about my writing, both novels and plays, you can find me at www.NormanShabel.net.
