Gods of Riverworld (Riverworld Series #5) by Philip José Farmer

Thirty billion people from throughout Earth's history have been resurrected along the great and winding waterways of Riverworld. Most began life anew—accepting without question the sustenance provided by their mysterious benefactors. But a rebellious handful, including Mark Twain, Richard Burton, and Peter Jairus Frigate, burned to confront the unseen masters who controlled their fate—and these few launched an invasion that will ultimately yield the mind-boggling truth. The story was chronicled in four previous volumes, and is now concluded in Gods of Riverworld.

Riverworld's omnipotent leaders must finally be confronted, and the renegades of Riverworld—led by the intrepid Sir Richard Francis Burton—will control the fantastic mechanism that rules them. But the most awesome challenge lies ahead. For in the vast corridors and secret rooms of the tower stronghold, an unknown enemy watches and waits to usurp the usurpers....

I have read few sci fi novels that have tapped my imagination as much as Farmers 'The Gods Of Riverworld' Though it is the last book in the riverword series, it is still a excellent book by itself. The title does not do the book justice. It took me all of the first page to want to read the rest of the book. The story is littered with subplots and actual history of some of the characters used in the book that keep you wanting to know more about the characters, almost attach to the personalities. The story really makes wonder is there a chance this could really happen. As far as reading, the book is easy to folow but doesent insult your intelegence. An eight grader or a 40 year old would have the same enjoyment reading this work, with little trouble understanding the book.I found it very easy to knock out an entire chapter in one night. As a whole the entire riverworld series is worlth reading, but if you were to read only one book in the series. This would be the one. This book grabs you takes you for a wild ride of the imagination and leaves you wanting more after. For me the true test of how good this book was, was did it leave me wanting to read more my this author? I have since read the other books in the riverworld series, plus a handful of other books Farmer wrote. I would 100% tell any sci fi fan to pick up this book.
