This is an action oriented update of the classic Goldilocks story, most enjoyable for boys and girls aged 6 to 11

We read this book within our First grade classroom (group of higher achievers).  Given 18 students, the ratings ranged from 1 to 5 with an average of 3.  Students classified the type of book as a funny adventure mixed with  Science Fiction.  The overall plot is about three friends (Goldilocks, James, and Baby Bear (BB)) that learn about  the history of the SMOT attack and how Bears and Humans can communicate using ABL (American Bear  Language).  The friends set up a club that meets to learn more about the history of the SMOT attack and they bring in a Laser gun that they display in the Library showcase as to remind people of the past.  A SMOT Alien also wants this Laser gun.  At the end of the story the Alien SMOT show up and a battle occurs.  Students stated that the most interesting things about this book is the ABL and how Bears and people communicate.  They also could relate to the story as it takes place in Minnesota (where we are from).  Overall likes/dislikes statements included:  silly, about friendships, different than most books I read, tends to be more for boys than girls, thought the book would be more about Aliens but seemed to be more about friendship, story was starting to get a little slow and just when I started questioning "What happened to the Aliens" the SMOT appeared at the library, and Baby Bears songs to remember things was neat.  This group of students would recommend this book to friends. As a teacher there is one word  in the beginning that should be changed to Darn versus Damn.  Glad I caught  this and used a different word.  This word is offensive to some and not something for primary students.
