This will be a series of multilingual bedtime stories for children ages 0 - 6 to dream about their future STEM careers! A little boy envisions working as a physician in this rhyming picture-book series entry by Intergalactic.

In a story told in rhyming couplets, an unnamed Black child dreams about being a doctor. He’s shown treating children, as well as a few adults, administering shots and even performing surgery in an operating theater. Along the way, the narration circles back multiple times to show the boy asleep in bed. This book describes, in a style that recalls Margaret Wise Brown’s classic Goodnight Moon(1947), what physicians do, and it does so in terms that even very young readers will find easy to understand: “They treat kids and grandparents, moms and dads / They make you feel better when you feel bad.” Ugurkose’s soft, full-color pastel illustrations are appealing, featuring charming faces with a variety of skin tones. However, the text is somewhat overlong, and the repetition of “Good night little doctor / Sleep tight little doctor” starts to feel monotonous. The meter mostly flows well, but there are a few awkward lines, such as the Yoda-like “Many patients there are to see / How many? / Maybe one or two or three?” That said, the book does a great job of portraying doctors as relatable and kind; more importantly, it presents medicine as an accessible career.

A worthy, if slightly uneven, bedtime story.
